Coyote advice wanted

I have permission to bow hunt a wooded 25 acre property near my house that’s part of 100+\- acres of woods surrounded by subdivisions. This year I’ve barely seen any deer and no turkey which is odd compared to previous years. This morning I had 3 does run through about 100 yards off being chased by a coyote. Landowner confirmed he has been seeing coyotes for the first time this year. I’d like to get rid of them if I can but I cannot use traps or a gun (landowners rules). Not opposed to coming back after deer season and using calls / scents but I’ll need to get them in archery range. Anyone have experience with something like this? Is it realistic?

I have shot plenty of coyotes with a rifle within 30-40 yards by calling them. In fact a buddy and me called one in that stepped out beside my buddy within 5 yards. Calling from a stand or saddle should give you an advantage on them. Just watch your wind direction, they typically circle downwind of where you are calling. Good luck and have fun hunting coyotes.

They like to travel low areas and avoid getting sky lined in...use that to your advantage and much like deer hunting wind is easily half the battle

You could also look into the bigger caliber air rifles that do not make any noise at all if thats what he is worried about they are plenty powerful enough to take down bigger game then coyotes but not so powerful that it would be wrong to use around houses but I would get a couple videos together to show the landowner how much safer it is than firearms and maybe he goes for it and maybe he doesn't then, if he doesn't go for it, you just need to get them in archery range, no harm no foul!!!

Total eradication is probably going to be impossible, especially with a bow. The way I see coyotes is if I get a shot I take it. I love killin dogs. It’s kind of like pigs though you aren’t gonna make a big impact on population.

The best you can hope is to scare them off and kill as many as you can in the process. Problem with a bow is no big loud bang that every coyote in the area hears. When you do kill a coyote hang the dead body in a tree. It is an ole timer trick. Kind of like a calling card to the coyotes, "leave or get dead". The coyotes feel safe on the land and you need to make them move on, you will NEVER kill all of them. Rifle season starts next week on my land and I am having the same problem. I will hunt deer in the morning and then switch over to coyote calls around 10-11. Good luck man!

Thanks for the replies. Talked with the land owner this morning after my hunt (who lives on the property vs absentee) and his concern with guns is his suburban neighbors complaining if they hear shots. I have a few buddies with cans I’m going to see if they’ll come hunt with me sometime.

Shooting coyotes might be cathartic, but you are not getting rid of them that way.
