Hello all, just getting going on Saddle hunting. I bought 12 Cranford rope steps which will get me around 20 feet or so high. I need a pouch with a sling so I can throw it around my neck to pull the rolled up rope steps out of while I’m ascending. Having said that, anyone got any good suggestions on the pouch? I intend on just rolling it up and stuffing it in my pack once I’m up where I want to be. Thus far, a military sustainment pouch looks like my best option...

Thank you...I bought the ESS and love it thus far..just ordered a TH Recon as well for a back up. Can’t wait for this upcoming season. I’m prepping trees now using the TH hand drill and 3/8” bolts Eberhart style...bought the Cranford Rope steps for Public Land hunts!

I use a chest pouch that holds the majority of them and keep 3 or 4 of the steps in my cargo pocket for the first 3 steps at the bottom of the tree.

Would be my first choice but of course many other options

With 12, you might consider 6 on each side of your saddle.

I use Sea to Summit mesh sacks and sewed loops on them and use the loops to hang them off my saddle.

These come in several sizes and are very well made (as is everything from that brand that I've encountered).

Did you modify the attachment method for the Cranford steps? I plan on carrying one in my pack just in case I need to get a little higher but I can never seem to get it real tight.

I bought one off of Amazon think it was a wynex brand chest rig bought for 18 or 20$ bucks and watched a YouTube video on it before I bought to make sure it was big enough. The pouches on the saddle were okay for climbing just didn’t like walking in because of how they weighed my saddle down. The sling pouch like bullman outdoors had is nice. I like the chest rig because the weight is close and they don’t swing around.

What about using slipknots or rubber bands to make a sort of daisy-chain bandoleer? Other thought is a large drawstring pouch - like the leg cut off an old pair of camo pants - on a belt, so you can switch it from side to side, or the small of your back, as need be.

I’m unfamiliar with a mod for them...gotta link?

I agree, thus far I prefer to run my saddle “clean”...I really don’t want anything attached to it if I can avoid it

Yes, cutting the leg off of an old pair of cammies is a good idea...then sewing a draw string in!
