I have a CVA Wolf that has fiber sights, but I’m looking to finally upgrade them before the late season. Do any of you use anything from Williams or eabco? I considered a ghost ring or peep sight... but I’ve also thought about just buying a Picatinny rail and mounting my Aimpoint red dot on it.

I’m also curious what you guys like to shoot as far as powder pellets/loads?

Last but not least, what do you sight it in at?

I’m looking for something like I do with my AR - 50/200yrd sight in and I’m never higher or lower than 2 inches.

Any info is greatly appreciated!!

A standard muzzleloader will not shoot as flat as a rifle. I currently use the Federal Premium Bor Lock bullets with 120 grains of loose 777 FFFG powder. I sight in dead on at 100 yds, and can shoot 0-125 holding dead on. At 150, it is dropping almost 5 inches and I hold on the top of the shoulder. I have used about every powder and bullet combo, and would shoot Blackhorn 209 instead of 777, but it will not ignite reliably in my favorite Knight. Hornady XTP bullets are good too.

For sights, I use scopes on my in-lines.

I use 100 grains of buckhorn 209 and been using 250gr Hornady SST sabots but will be switching to either Barnes expanders or Hornady monoflex the expansion sucks on the SST.

I just use the Konus scope that came on my Accura MR.

Is smokeless legal? If so I'd go that route and never look back

Went through this whole song and dance for elk season with true primitive in Colorado.

I will give the whole run down, but I ended up getting a new rifle because of the craziness getting dialed in with a slow heavy bullet and open sights. It was an absolute pleasure doing it though, and I learned a lot.

I ended up with the ghost ring sight. I feel comfortable with shots to 150 on elk with the right conditions.

I was able to shoot 3” groups consistently at 100 yards with a 460 grain no excuses bullet going roughly 1300fps - my gun likes 70gr of FFG. I shoot a wonder wad between powder and boolit. Knight disc extreme.

I intend to shoot a lighter bullet from them for whitetails, and expect my limit to be 100 yards - due to the sight. I may look to swap to a front globe sight and crosshairs. But I love the ghost ring.

I could swap to a sabot and scope and shoot tiny groups. But then I may as well carry a centerfire rifle. It was a challenge to get the gun dialed in, and that was quite satisfying.

I was shooting 12” groups with 100gr powder. Backed down in 5gr increments until my shoulder was jello. I was at 75gr and still shooting 10-12”, and I promised myself I would see one more round through then call it a day. Loaded 70gr, and like magic, shot this group @100.

Now I wanna shoot again!

I recommend 100 grains of triple seven pellets (2- 50 grains). I've read great things about blackhorn 209 but last thing I knew you had to get a special CVA breech plug designed for it and I like the convenience of pellets over loose powder.
I recommend staying away from powerbelt bullets. They load easy and usually group well but I have had many bad experiences with them not expanding on deer. I recommend Barnes bullets.

150 of 777, pellet
338 gr powerbelt platinum
Zeroed at 150

This set up is just about 2 inch high for 50-100 yards and then zero 150 and about 6 low at 200.
And it’s about double the KE of a 250grain load

I actually just got a wolf myself for anniversary present and I’ve done a lot of research and I’ve found that almost everyone that bought the Williams peep complained about it shooting low and the fix was to replace front fiver with a lowered one. I’m not a fan of the factory fiber optics so I’m going to put a Red dot on mine as it’s what I run on my shotgun as well. As far as loads I’m gonna be playing with my old goto hot ash xtp as well as some powerbelt platinums this weekend I’ll report back. Plan on starting with pyro pellets as I have bunch left.

This is the best combo I've found and we shoot muzzleloaders A LOT. We've lost deer with powerbelts but they are super accurate. The only difference is that I shoot Blackhorn with the different breech plug. 300 gr. Barnes with 100 gr. 777 pellets/Blackhorn and swab every 3rd shot. I shoot an Optima and the wife shoots a Wolf with the same exact combo. We shoot scopes since we're allowed here, I just have a cheapo slug gun scope on mine and hers came with one.

I have an Accura V2. Currently using 100 grains 777 pellets and a 240 grain Harvester Scorpion PT Gold. Have a CVA branded Konus scope. It's fine for muzzleloader range. Have been debating on picking up a better one. But I recently picked up some Blackhorn 209 and the Blackhorn breech plug. Just haven't had a chance to shoot it at the range. Possibly this week, that's an off week between firearms season and muzzleloader. Killed a doe opening day with it at 60-70 yards. Hadn't shot it since last season. Hit both lungs and top of the heart. Thinking of trying Harvester's new 300 grain White Lightning bullet. But my setup has worked well for me so far.

Hard to beat a Knight and working the loads in them! The Green Mountain barrel on my cheap Wolverine is absolute magic, I can shoot anything from 120 down to 60 grains of loose 777 in it with consistent groups, just the elevation of impact changes at 100. I know lots of guys love the pellets for ease of use, but you really should research them vs. powder, if you have not already. Also, FFG vs FFFG can make a big difference.

One tip I only recently learned for anyone using 777 in any form... I always used hot water and dish detergent to clean my guns for the past 30 years, but it always took some scrubbing. I decided to try boiling water on a whim and pour it down the barrel after running a dry brush through and it produces white patches after the second patch everytime. No scrubbing or cleaner needed. I run a patch with alchohol after that to ensure a dry barrel then a light oil patch if going back to storage. Easy cleaning!

I really like my CVA wolf 50 Cal. It shoots tighter groups than my 308. I use two 50 grain white hot pellets, with a Barnes T EZ 250 grain bullet. I sighted it in 4 inches high at 100 yards like the chart below, so I’m a little over 2 inches high at 50 yards, and 2 inches high again at 150 yards. I shot a 300lb hog that was hard quartering away at 75 yards. The Barnes bullet passed through almost 2 feet of pig before exiting through the front leg bone shattering everything as it exited. I don’t think there is a better bullet for muzzleloading.

Just curious, side by side, do you see any difference in accuracy or otherwise between the two? I bought an Optima this year because it was only $75 more for it with stainless barrel and scope rings than the wolf bare bones. Happy with my purchase but just curious since a buddy of mine was looking at the wolf

Not at all. The wife just bought me the Optima for a Christmas gift a few years back and I like cleaning the nickle barrel a little better.
