This is the story Dan sent me about his recent buck

Hello John,

Hopefully you’ve had an opportunity to get out into the woods some this fall, and if not yet, hopefully soon!

I wanted to share some more saddle and ScentLok success with you, not that you need convincing the pair are a killer combination! Thanks by the way for getting me sold on both.

A couple weeks ago I went down to Kentucky for a 4 day trip in Butler County. We were bow hunting for 2 days and then Saturday and Sunday was a 2 day Muzzleloader season. Long story short, I spotted a good buck on Friday morning from an observation stand so mid-day I prepped a tree near where I’d seen him cross through a secluded soybean field.

I didn’t hunt it that night, but did the following morning and sure enough he made an appearance again, but too far off. Fortunately, from this view I was able to see where he was headed and I assumed was bedding, so again during mid-day I moved in and found a closer tree. I hunted that evening hoping to see him emerging from the small pocket of timber, but he was a no show.

Sunday morning I was back in the same tree. A warm front had come through in the night and it was nearly 20 degrees warmer than it had been the previous 3 mornings. It was dead for the first hour and a half, and with temps forecasted to hit 70+ that day it wasn’t looking good for the afternoon hunt before we had to leave.

As I was debating how much longer to stay I caught movement entering the field from the timber near where I’d expected he would come from. Sure enough, it was him heading back to bed. I let him close the distance a bit, and then at 140 yards he stopped in a bare spot out in the field. I knew he would likely get closer, but felt comfortable with the shot so I took it.

As the smoke cleared I could see he was hit, just not exactly where. Shortly after, I got down to check for blood and when I found the blood trail at the edge of the field, I looked into the woods and there he laid. A beautiful chocolate racked 14 point. It was with a muzzloader, so it was a little bittersweet for me as I’d much rather had a bow kill, but still very happy to say the least.

Yet another case where the ScentLok and saddle allowed me to hunt where I needed to be regardless of the conditions.
