I'm on a budget and want to make some single step aiders for my Hawk 20" sticks.

Amsteel would be great but it's expensive.

I've seen people use 7mm accessory cord before. Is that overkill? Would 6mm hold up ok? I'm 5'11" and 170 pounds.

Amsteel aiders are not expensive at all to make. 1/8" amsteel is only $0.32/ft at EWO. The only other thing you need is fuel line hose which you can get at any auto parts store. For a single step aider you only need about 6 ft of amsteel, so for a little more than $2 you can make an aider.

This is the double step aider I made. Single step is even easier since all you need to do is make a 5" loop with a locked Brummel at each end and then bury about 10" of tag end below that. Doing the bury was the hardest part, but there are numerous videos on YouTube that show how to do this.IMG_20210601_200226911.jpg

I went the Amsteel route as well. It’s about as cheap as you can go unless you have cheap access to 1-2” webbing.

1” webbing is great for this. I bought knockoff 1/4” amsteel and made aiders that worked super well and were super cheap too

If you have some old ratchet straps lying around, you could tie up some aiders using that webbing.
