Anyone ever made their own pair of climbing spurs? I've got the tools and materials and have been really considering it. Ideally I'd like to find a super cheap set of steel spurs and go off of them but that seems highly unlikely. Just curious if anyone here has done that or will I be the first dummy to try...

At your own risk I suppose, I think building the frame would be pretty easy and make it too accept some after market spikes that you can buy too replace oem ones on oem gaffs. I would guess that the spikes themselves are a special hardened steel but I really couldn;t say. Go for it and try it out.

I think you could do it and buy the spikes to make them fit. I looked at mine tonight. Bend up some aluminum bar?

That's what I was thinking, just bend up some aluminum bar and buy a set of gaffs and fit them to it. I don't think it'd be hard at all, I may have found a pair of steel ones to go off of. Hardest part would be the pads and straps but I don't think that'd be to much trouble either.
