Followed the DIY Sportsman’s directions, but added a hose for the steps and textured anti slip tape. Took 20 minutes. Had all the materials laying around.

Are your steps painted blue? And if so what for?

I did his method as well. I have never used an aider so hard to compare. I haven't had problems with it. I folded the webbing over and put and old pen without the point/ink in the fold then taped and cobra wrapped it with Paracord. It works well and when I have more layers on I shorten the gap by folding the webbing over the bottom step and that helps the transition between the steps. The only gripe is that the steps aren't over the top of each other and if climbing on a tree that's angled and you are on the high side it's hard to get your feet in the loops but I guess that would be an issue with all aiders.
