I couldn't wait. It has been several months since I inquired about the JX3. I'm sure like many of you, the response in the email was they will let you know when they are taking orders again. I feel I'm quite capable of DIY'ing. I took on the challenge of the JX3. Built a couple of saddles as well..... Guess those will be another thread...... Had a trophyline treesaddle about 7 or 8 years ago. got out of deer hunting until last year. Again another thread..... Anyways............... I am a saddle hunter since trophyline.........
First off, buy the JX3 if available. I do not want to infringe on their product. I only built my own because I'm impatient. (Ask my Wife ) This thing is awesome. Way more comfortable than a saddle. Still working on offside shot.
When I built my first saddle, I bought extra material with the thought of mistakes and tweaks to make it perfect. If your buying material from scratch, I'm not sure how much it will cost you with shipping.
I bought 4 molle frames from sportsmansguide for like 6 dollars each. (I bought extra knowing family and friends might want one.) Already had all of the webbing. 2yrds of mesh at $10 a yard. ( I have enough to make another.) $20 for 1"x1/8"thick square aluminum tubing at local supplier. (Have a Harbor Freight 12 ton tubing bender. Built, welded a jig for square tubing.) Had the fabric and buckles already. (Bought a bunch of stuff to try for the saddles.) Used scrap metal in the shed for the standoff..... (Need to remake that, it needs to be thicker because it bends if I extend it. (Yes I have a welder.) Huge pack of different types of molle hooks for $20 on amazon. (Will use these for multiple things.......) All in all, I probably have less than $100 dollars to build this. I'm just guessing and not including shipping because I had most of the stuff from the saddle builds.
If you have access to a welder, and a bender, and know how to use them, this is an easy build. Of course sewing takes a while.....
Photos to follow. apparently my computer will not automatically resize them and I will ad them with my phone. (Just did a test on the welcome page....)
