Getting ready to place order from REI for linesman belt, looking for suggestions on carabiners, would you get two the same or do you put a different one on the ropeman 1?
Thanks!!

I got two smaller wire gate biners and 8mm static rope from REI. The biners are rated for more than enough to handle a lineman’s rope. The ropeman 1 is not rated for 8mm cord, but I have found that it bites hard and has plenty of bite left. Since it’s not a fall arrest, I have no safety concerns. Also it’s very compact which is a plus.

I ordered mine from Wespur and had a eye spliced into one end and just girth hitch it to one side and then ropeman 1 with carabiner. I really like that set up myself.

Yep gotta keep an eye on it. The knot in that pic I posted I changed to a knot that keeps the rope snug on the end of the biner instead of a loop that can float around.

I would think that change the loop size would help, but you are still at risk of loading the wire gate itself. Climbing trees is never best case scenario when you fall. I don't see the benefits out weighing the risks for myself. Stay safe buddy.

I have almost the exact same setup but I’m using locking carabiners. I also tied a figure 8 on a bight on one end because once at hunting height I’m using it as a secondary tether.

I’d also add the legal disclaimer that the Ropeman 1 is not rated for 8mm rope but I’ve found it has plenty of bite left. Use at your own risk!

Emrah

Ya, no way I'd use this setup. That's me though. I'd go to a 9mm rope because of the Ropeman rating and definitely locking biners. Your setup will certainly work but for a couple dollars more you'd have a much safer linemans. I'm old and can't afford any falls. If I was using that lineman in the pitch dark I'd constantly be wanting to shine my light on it to make sure that rope wasn't folding over the biners.
