Agree w/ @Swampfox on the Gutermann TERA40. I also have some Polyester size 69/Tex70 from the thread exchange that I really like. Here is a link to the thread exchange page giving more info than you want on Poly thread/break strength/uses:

Well I’m first attempt at a diy saddle went extremely well, not perfect but close to it. I copied G2 dimensions from his diy sit drag saddle. Excited to test this and compare to stock sit drag. I’m not putting a belt or amsteel bridge in this one because I believe I’m going to be making more and better saddles in the future.

I use an 18/110 with the larger thread I have been using for my saddles which I believe is Tera40.

I've had better luck with universal and jeans needles compared to the singer heavy duty needles I have tried. Size and sharp are key.
