Getting my new mantis tree saddle on Thursday. Haven't got a tree tether or lineman's belt yet. I have stores close by that sale climbing equipment. What is the best deal on rope for this? And what lengths do y'all go for?

I bought 70’ of 11 mm static rope. It was a bit stiff and slick at first. I cut 2 pieces off about 10’ long and tied a large figure 8 in one end and an overhand knot on the other. The idea is the rope doubles as either my tether or my lineman as needed and being the same it doesn’t matter which one I grab.

Then I decided it was safer and easier to climb with a 30’ tether so I only carry the 1 lineman/tether rope.

Thanks for the info. I will definitely look into this. Are you using a ropeman 1 in your setup?

I am using Bluewater Assault line with two 8mm accessory cord prussic knots as both lineman’s and tether. Figure 8 follow through tied on both ends of the tether so it doesn’t matter which way I sling it around the tree. No Ropeman for me but that’s purely out of my cheapness. I haven’t had any issues just sliding the prussic knots.

Thanks for the info man. I'm happy to see that the knots I learned in boy scouts rappelling will definitely come in handy. Crazy that it took me till 2019 to stop carrying 50lb worth of gear(sarcastic) to the woods. Can't wait!!

I couldn’t get a 1 locally so I bought a 2. I used it on my waist as an ascender a couple times. Then I tried it on my lineman and it’s OK. I use it now to connect my fleece saddle while staying connected to my harness with a safeguard.

I saw a cool video recently, probably posted here, that shows using a prusik with a pulley on the lineman. The pulley creates a redirect and tender that makes using a prusik much easier.
