Does C-IV get softer?

Does C-IV break in and lose its stiffness with repeated use?

I started with C-IV when first rappelling but quickly sold it to buy Canyon Elite because I didn’t like C-IV’s stiffness. Elite is very supple but also fat and bulky in a hip pouch. I’ll probably need to replace my rappel rope next season. Wondering if it’s worth going back?

Yes a little bit. I started with C-IV, made my way around with a few other ropes, and ended up back with C-IV again. I prefer the stiffness it offers. I hated canyon elite fwiw.

I let a buddy borrow my Resc Tech this season and so I was using my backup C-IV. I definitely missed the packability of the RT, but the C-IV has gotten softer the more I used it. That said, I will be going back to the Resc Tech

Not enough that you’ll say “wow, this rope has really softened up”.

Maxim Canyon Elite is a great alternative I’ve got two seasons on my rappel line with many, many, many climbs and it’s still in great condition.

My C-IV has softened up a little bit, but I will not use anything else I tried Elite last year and it was way more difficult to retrieve, (I think because it is softer it grips the bark more). Anyway the C-IV is very easy to retrieve.

I may go with the C-IV for a tether due to the stiffness. I like a separate tether, then I can use the end of my rappell line (resctech) for a lineman’s belt if I go over a limb…..that’s pretty nifty too! I want an SRT rope and wanted to get enough C-IV for a tether too(for 1 sticking) but max length to order right now is 40’ on EWO
