I happened to watch this and thought I’d share with everyone. Sounds like while climbing down and using a lineman rope/strap it broke causing him to fall 23’, breaking his back. He blames himself as to not replacing an old lineman rope. It’s a good reminder to make sure each and every time we go up a tree, no matter what technique, that we inspect all parts of our system. I am a lineman by trade and safety rules and procedures have been beaten into my brain so I may go home safe every day and night. The simple and quick inspection of ropes, belts, carabiners, saddle, etc can/will save your life. That being said, it is so very easy to get complacent when you’re running behind or tell yourself it was fine just yesterday. 99% of the time everything will be fine. It just times one mistake. Any signs of wear, tearing, dry rotting, fraying should be taken serious. As much money we all spend to get the best gear possible, please don’t skimp on safety. Having backup ropes and other equip is always a good idea. Be safe out there!I happened to watch this and thought I’d share with everyone.
