Drag out

Hey guys
This is my first season in a saddle. Built a sit drag from into found here. Thanks it made the walk in and out much easier. I hunt public so no short hikes. I’m looking for ideas on dragging deer out. I have a dolly and skid both have pros and cons. Wondering if there is a better way I’m not aware of. Also do y’all stash em close to the stand or leave em at the truck. Thanks

Do you absolutely have to drag them out?

If you don't then packing them out with a good frame pack is absolutely the way to go.

Dragging SUCKS

I don’t have to drag out but not sure about leaving trimmings where I hunt. Thanks for the info will definitely look into it.

Gotcha, there are a few states that require bringing out the whole animal but most allow quartering and packing out.

I will never drag another deer more than 50 yards again if I can help it haha

Check your State regs. Some states do not allow packing out. Have to have the full deer.

Man that pop up is a sweet pack!!! I wish I hadn’t just ordered the pursuit pack yesterday. Don’t think I can get away with ordering two in a row. When you pack out do you use game bags? To secure the meat?

Yep game bags! Or if you shoot a fawn you can just gut it and toss it in your bag whole! lol

Most game bag packs come with a bag for each quarter and a smaller one for the trimmings, backstraps, etc. Bag each chunk of meat up, or debone it, let it cool a little bit. Toss it in your pack or strap it to the frame, some folks use a contractor bag as a pack liner to keep blood off of it then walk it out to the cooler!

Trekking poles help a lot too.

Thanks guys gonna load up on pillow cases first see if it works for me. Before ordering game bags. It’s gonna be nice having it strapped to my bag instead of breaking my back dragging through mud and palmetto!!!

If you buy game bags highly recommend Alaska Game Bags. A little more expensive but they're very strong and you can wash and reuse them.

I have a jet sled. I have used a couple different carts and have packed them out. It depends on how far I am, who I am with, and the terrain. Most of the time I’m not carrying a pack that can comfort pack a deer in one trip. If I have to walk back to the truck to get a pack I will just grab my sled. The sled works good solo where a cart is better with two people.

If I am not real close to the truck, I field qtr and debone. I am using the black ovis game bags and really like them but pillow case or just a trash bag will work. You also dont have to have a frame pack but a pack with a waist belt is a big positive.
