I was wondering if anyone has tried DRT climbing with sterling oplux 8mm rope ?
I have been using 11.4mm predator rope and it works great but to be honest it’s heavy and has a lot of bulk with 75’ of rope.
I’ve purchased 75’ of oplux and I’m starting to test it out.
I was concerned on how the Blake’s hitch would hold and release with the oplux but so far I actually think it works better than the 11.4mm predator rope on repel.
The rope is rated to 24kn but with the Blake’s hitch and clove hitch I was hoping one of the rope guys could share some input on safety.
Another concern I have is abrasion over the limb due to I’m not using a friction saver and how that may effect oplux rope by design.
I’ve noticed no wear on the rope as of yet with this setup and I try to repel slow to avoid the rope heating up.
As you see in the picture the oplux is far less bulk and I haven’t weighed them both yet but the difference is noticeable.
Again if any of you ROPE guy’s out there could run the numbers on this setup for me I would appreciate it.
I’ve being working with this setup 5’-10’ off the ground and it feels perfectly safe but I would like to have some advice from someone with more rope climbing knowledge before I head to hunting height.

I have about 52' of oplux...well maybe 50' after my figure 8 is tied...interested in this as well. However the problem is that most of my presets are at least 25' to the branch and one is 30' to the branch. I may have to start doing SRT on some of my presets.

Email from WesSpur about Oplux.

Greetings!

We are reaching out to all of our customer who have purchased the Sterling OpLux 8mm Tactical line.
There have been failures of this line & accidents when people have attempted to use it as a Climbing Line.

THIS IS NOT A CLIMBING LINE.
It is not rated for a climbing line.

This is intended for repelling, or as a tether, etc.

WesSpur has pulled the item from our website at this time to conduct testing on the product.

If you have ANY questions, please let us know and we will have you speak directly to our Arborist, Dave Stice.
