DRT Saddle Climbing

I started saddle hunting exclusively using the DRT methods that I learned from NYSaddlehunter.

DRT is the king of presets. It is quiet and safe. However, I hate DRT for hunting public land where I can't preset. I prefer 2TC. It is also quiet and very safe and you aren't fiddling with throwing a throwball with a throwline up in a tree. Try that in the dark, that sucks.

I was also using a CT quick step foot ascender with DRT but I quickly eliminated it. You can simply take the excess rope that goes to the ground and wrap it beneath your foot and use it as a foot loop, thereby eliminating unnecessary weight and noise and saving money. It's super easy, here's a video: Simple DRT Saddle Hunting Method with only a Rope

Thanks for your video.

thats a good video.

I do get a bit putoff when saying not using an ascender isnt simple. Its much more simpler to operate using the ascender than not. When I did DRT my system didnt require me to tie anything at the tree. Sure might of had a bit of extra weight but I ain't no weight weenie.

What do you mean when you did DRT you didn't have to tie anything to the tree? I don't understand.

AT the tree. I havent taken my hitches off my DRT since I first tied them. Only thing I have to do at the tree is pull the rope up, clip into my bridge, attach ascender and go. No hitch tying required.

How do you get your rope with the knot on it over? Or are all your limbs strait enough out that they don't get snagged?

The trees I DRT on, have fairly open crotches so Im worried about the carabiner catching in the crotch. Im using a split tail off a bachmann knot.

I was hunting as an MRS (DRT) climber for over a decade, starting in 2008. I thought it was great simply because I didn't yet understand that there was something better. But there is. Instead of a moving doubled rope, climb it stationary... DSRT.
1. We don't need mechanical devices and don't need to tie any knots at the tree.
2. We can climb faster at twice the pace (1:1 instead of 2:1).
3. We don't need to deal with the inefficiency of moving rope friction.
4. Hip thrust is a waste of energy and not necessary... we can climb a leaning tree from the low side with no problem.

My video if ya haven't seen it.
