Dryad Drey as a Stand-Alone?

Been considering getting a Drey. It's $120 for the Multicam full-body version. I see a Killdeer harness costs extra.

My question is...if I have ropes, tethers, etc. already from another setup, can I just buy the Drey by itself? Or does it require all the extra stuff and it's just affordable because you have to piece all the other parts together with it to make it a system?

You need to run a harness under the drey. It’s not designed to be used without one. You could use a rock climbing harness etc but if you don’t already have one laying around I’d go with one of the dryad harnesses. I’m running a killdeer with a hang on stand this year and I’m loving it so I vote that one!

do NOT even consider using it without something under it that will save your life by keeping you stuck to the tree

we don't want a replay of the guy that tried to make a saddle out of an old bow case....he didn't get hurt but it was a weird thread

I mounted my Drey to a Misty Mountain RCH. I could also attach it to my Recon. The hammock itself is not a standalone item, because it is not built for life support or fall arrest. The harness, be it Killdeer or RCH, is the life support item.

Per their website, the hammock is not made to be a stand alone saddle. The RCH provides the life safety portion of it. So I wouldn’t use it stand alone

Didn’t want to make a new thread, so I’ll just use this one.

Understand there is a retro kit which is basically g hooks and straps. After attaching it to my recon with components I already had in the drawer, I was reminded that I don’t care for stuff attaching to my saddle.

Does anyone just carry the drey and pouch separately and deploy at height? Thinking about just using a water bottle pocket on my pack or wear it like a sling pack.

I basically use it like I did a backband, but do leave mine attached( there’s not much bulk or weight penalty) found it’s easier to deploy from the attached position….. what your describing would work though

I have used the dray with the killdeer linemans belt works great . I have also used dray with my old krestel works even better .

When using it with the krestel, how does it transfer the weight from the saddle to the dryad. Or does dryad just add extra support like backband etc.

Works the same as with the killdeer belt . When you get to the height you want to be just let the load off of the kestrel and transfer your weight to your dray.
