Dyneema Fabric DIY Tarp/Tent

I am interested in building some gear for a backcountry elk hunt. I would prefer to use dyneema/cuben fiber, but the fabric cost is nearly the same as buying an off the shelf dyneema product. Is there a cheaper place to purchase this than Ripstop?

Thanks

If you're using dyneema/cuben fiber, the benefit is in custom designs rather than cost savings. I haven't found any place that sells significantly cheaper than ripstop. Unless you're getting off-cuts or scraps, you're typically paying a premium. Have you considered other lightweight fabrics like tyvek? not exactly the same thing but a reasonable alternative for the price difference.

I have looked into some other fabrics. I may try silpoly or silnylon.

You making hammocks, tarps, bags, or what? I'd personally go with silpoly, which I've found as cheap as $3/yard for scraps at our local fabric store. (Scraps being as long as 10 yards each, so maybe a bit of a misnomer.) I've made a bunch of hammocks, several kayak skins, backpacks, rain paints, tarps, and all kinds of stuff from silpoly and they are very effective in my experience. It's also a lot easier to work with, in my opinion. Cuben fiber isn't very forgiving based on what I've read and experienced.

Yeah, I was thinking about a tarp and a trekking pole shelter. Something similar to the Guardian by Seek Outside.

I’m not sure where you are located but reach out to a local tent, backpack or sailmaker?
Or just a smaller tent company out west.
Most I have worked with use cnc plotters to cut the material .
I’d imagine most would sell you material, unless it’s branded.

*edit VIAM OUTDOORS is the tent maker I couldn’t recall that offers diy panels

Rokslide would have more info on this I bet.

I have a Guardian, great tent. traded up from a Nemo.
