Educate me on bolts

Good info. Thanks guys. A couple of follow up questions...

I can see why adding the shrink tube would be helpful in cutting down noise. But aside from the noise factor, is there really any reason that the bare yellow bolts can't be used? I assume it is just a glare and visibility issue, and that is the reason that some people are just painting them?

I'm interested in learning more about the carbon fiber bolts. I want to consider safety first and foremost, so I doubt I would jump right in, but where are people buying them?

Thanks again.

I know of 2 carbon bolt failures on the thread last year. Both were at ground level in a testing phase, but they occurred. I only use them because I am a small guy (5’7”, 150-155) and I am extremely diligent about bolt and foot placement. With the known failures I can not, in good conscience, endorse them for others to use.

As mentioned above, they are pretty expensive. You could get real close to the cost of titanium bolts and never question the safety of your climbing method.

I recently plastidip my bolts and they are awesome, only thing is while hanging out to dry there is a air bubble on the bottom of the hex head. Any advice on how to get rid of those for my next batch? Could I cut the top excess off and heat it up and mold it to be flat?
