Yesterday I sprayed down a shirt, pair of pants and a hat with permethrin and let them fully dry. Today, taking advantage of the cooler weather, it was only 85 today, I ventured into my best hunting spot and cleared trails to direct deer past my most productive trees. Late last winter and early this spring I spent considerable time blocking existing deer trails and slightly redirecting them closer to my trees. My efforts worked well. After any big storm or big wind, I would go back and check the trails and make repairs as needed.
The trimming today was mainly to cut the foliage short to make the preferred trails more easily seen and make those trails appear more attractive to deer. At least that was my thought. As fall approaches the trails I cut will be clearer and stand out more. Deer will use the easiest path as long as there is good cover around it. Deer that weren't in the area during the summer and are passing through are more likely to follow the trails that most of the deer use hoping to cut the track of a hot doe. At least that's my thought.
