Entire weight of your kit?

Agreed, I use my sit drag and diy platform for 75% of my hunts, and my windwalker frankinstand the other 25% seems like when I'm carrying the 2 in there isn't much difference. Though the sit drag has the edge, I'm say the windwalker is hard to beat for a light weight portable stand.

@ImThere Windwalker is 5.5 lbs--but that includes seat, platform, tree strap....how much does your sit drag weigh with RC harness, tether, pad, step ring or platform?
@Windwalker very hard to beat....very..... Wish I could find an original fleece backpack for it. Going to have to sew one up this summer
@Nutterbuster 16lbs isnt bad at all. love my T3 lite--have one in 300wsm. its bomber and dead accurate. Good luck out there today.

What'd you do for mods on your windwalker?

My RC, tether don’t change weight if I’m in my sitdrag or loc on? It always weighs the same = no change

I’m not sure how much 4 ameristeps weigh? I’m sure someone will be along to tell me or I can weigh them when I get home.

But to be honest when I’m in my sit drag I don’t use a RC and I don’t use a pad.

I use the same climbing method sitdrag or loc on = no change

So windwalker - sitdrag + steps = 2-3lbs?

Good point on the tether, right on. So you're a couple of pound under without a RC. Unbfortunately, as comfortable as I am in the air, and being a very experience rockclimber, and knowing bad things that have happened to professional people out of their control I dont think I would hang in a sit drag without a RC unless it was heavily modded. But I totally get where you're coming from and appreciate it-- the more I hear people talking about sit drags and the number of people using them I can't discount them as a really good thought an option for me in the future.

I think you missed my point. You will be in some type of harness / Rc if your in a sit drag or windwalker right? So you cannot count that weight.
What you can count is the windwalker vs the sit drag and platform/ steps? IMHO

aha, yes. Sorry, have a three year old..brain isn't always functioning first thing in the morning(or at all). The harness is a fixed variable :thumbs up:

Lol
I’m not trying to disregard the windwalker the weight is awesome! Lighter than other alternative for sure just pointing out apples to apples lol

:) No worries!!! Again, I love the input. Any saddle beats the windwalker for packability as well, which is one of the things that draws me too it.

There is another factor you're leaving out comparing weight of saddles vs. stands in my opinion and that is needing a more substantial backpack. With the stand it's a built in carry system, all the gear is lashed to it and I have no pack or a super light fleece pack. With the saddle I need a backpack to carry everything in. Choosing sticks and a platform I want a more substantial pack with a frame but either way I think you're needing a heavier backpack.

Good point, though my carry method for a stand depends on which stand I'm carrying....use the stand as frame on larger stands, smaller gets strapped to pack. I can easily fit my whole saddle setup in the pack I strap the windwalker to, and mini sticks strapped where the stand is instead.

Very good thread.
I wish I had found this before I started this saddle journey. I would have had more realistic expectations.

Here's the breakdown of my main components for this year...
Mantis saddle with SYS Hauler bag-1.2lbs
Predator platform-2.60lbs
Modded Gecko CF spikes-2.60lbs
DIY 24" climbing sticks with 3 step am steel aiders-5.25lbs

Besides that stuff I will have two tethers both with Ropeman1 and biner, roughly a pound each.

At my lightest with all my camera gear in my pack i'm just over 15lbs. If I didn't film i'd be sub 10lbs every day!

The lightest set up I have is a xstand climber weighs 12 pounds. It is a little on uncomfortable side for long sit’s. Going with the mantis and predator platform and one stick method this year.

It has fiberglass arms on it that do flex. Do like it for the weight. But the seat is not the most comfortable in the world. The arms that flex are just to hold the cable’s in place that’s about it. Have had it for about three years now. Have had no issues with it at.

I almost bought one bit it seemed like there was stuff sticking in the air everywhere when packed and on your back...I decided against it. Thought it would be hell packing through rhe woods??
