The screws on this one go in at a slight angle FYI. So the holes on the rear of stick stick will need to be slightly further than on the front of the stick, and the nuts won't sit flush with the stick.

That is a VERY important detail! Thanks Red Squirrel! I may just return that one based on that info. The screws on this one go in at a slight angle FYI. I drilled a hole through the middle of the stick and got small nylon bushings to protect the rope with a stopper knot on the end. I will probably put a figure 8 on a bight on, girth hitch it to the stick, then put a stopper knot in just as a back up to the stopper knot. That is a VERY important detail! Thanks Red Squirrel! I plan to drill a hole through the middle of the stick with a small piece of rubber tubing (or something) as a protective insert, run the rope through that and tie a knot on the other end.

I did the exact same.I drilled a hole through the middle of the stick and got small nylon bushings to protect the rope with a stopper knot on the end. I will probably put a figure 8 on a bight on, girth hitch it to the stick, then put a stopper knot in just as a back up to the stopper knot.
What rope are you all using for you sticks with cleats?

I don't recommend Amsteel blue for any use that will cause it to be abraided by the tree Trunk. Guys use it, but there are better options IMO.I'm going to try 5mm Amsteel blue. I'm a bit concerned about abrasion resistance but I'll test it out and see how it holds up.

Ernie was using it for something so I bought some to try. It is too small to work well with a versa button but should work great with a cam cleat. Between the guys on here, googling around and searching arborist and rock climbing forums is how I learn about about different climbing gear and techniques. Are these ropes you have become familiar with because of this forum?

I'm sure @g2outdoors is right but I've used 1/4 amsteel blue for 4 years with my sticks and cam cleats. Besides some color fading, they still look very good. Maybe it's the softer oaks in Arkansas that is easier on them...I dunno.

That's what I was thinking...any recommendations? I got the cam cleat today, 2.1 ounces. Putting the stick and cleat, without rope, at 1 pound 10 ounces.I don't recommend Amsteel blue for any use that will cause it to be abraided by the tree Trunk. Guys use it, but there are better options IMO.

I figured it has to be better than a diy versa button (2 bolts vs 1 bolt)I never thought of putting a loop around the cam cleat. Are they strong enough for the side loading? I suppose perhaps it evens out the load on the bolts rather than having the load all pulling in one direction.
Looks nice for sure.
