Way to go GBlevins!!! That is a nice first deer for the new season!
Where are you hunting that your season is already open?

Now for the story.... I've been watching this deer all summer and had him patterned good, although I was getting worried because he started to show up less consistent on camera in the last two weeks and I knew once he sheds velvet his pattern would change especially with acorns starting to drop. I had a corn pile in a morning feeding area where I had hung my sticks and platform a feed weeks back. He would come in there some mornings as early as 5 but stay sometimes till 10 in the morning so I got on stand around 4:45 am that morning and sit there till a little after 11 and never seen the first deer. The second spot I had him patterned was an apple tree he would feed on in the evenings, I knew he was coming through a small section of woods on the corner of the property to get there so after I got back from the morning hunt I went and set up my sticks and strapped on some ameristeps about 25' up right in the middle of this travel area I didn't know precisely where he was walking through so I wanted to be near the middle to have him in range regardless Which side he came on. After setting up I went back to the house grabbed a nap washed my hunting cloths and showered in dead down wind again and headed back. I had been on the stand about an hour and a half when two does popped over the hill straight for me and then 3 more does the lead doe was trying to wind me she definitely picked up something weird but she didn't blow. Not 30 seconds after the does showed up here he came over the hill, at this point the head doe was underneath me and still acting suspicious I thought she was going to ruin it for me. He comes in on a string never even stops until he's about 6 yards from my tree, I was already drawn back when he stopped I shot straight down through his back just behind the shoulder blades completely passed through. I could see the blood pouring out as he ran he made it about 75 yards down hill and piled up !
