EZV Sight Discussion

I have a bow with a ez v and a single pin slider. No peep with the single pin I’m a bit faster. But the ez v has become natural. I went pro and haven’t been back yet.

******** edit. I meant to say I was faster with no peep vs having a peep. I am fastest with no peep and the Ez v. ********

Not sure if this is the right thread to add on to but here goes... I'm headed to the archery range (no backyard shooting for me) with a brand new ezv installed. I'm shooting a bear cruzer g2, which has an advertised fps of 315, but the highest ezv insert I have is 300. Perhaps since I'm shooting a whisker biscuit that'll steal some fps from the bow? Anyhow, off to see if I can shoot anything close to what I am aiming at and will report back.

I don't have plans to shoot deer past 30 yards this year so we shall see if the Ez v appeals or if it'll be headed to the classifieds soon. Hope I like it.

Trying a new release today as well because... Always best to change multiple things at once?? Lol

Most likely you're not shooting that fast as IBO is based on like a 30" draw length and 350 grain arrow. So assuming your draw length is shorter than that and your arrows are heavier, you're probably closer to 250 ish. My bow is rated at like 325 but my draw length is 26" and my arrows are around 500 grains give or take. I'm using the 250 insert. But the 20 yard tic mark is the same on all the new inserts. So just sight it in at 20 and then swap inserts until 30-40 are on.

You need to know the actual arrow speed of the arrow you are shooting. The Ibo speed doesn't apply to which insert you are using.

Have a new Gearhead T20 Carbon on the way (thing is like 2.8 pounds), the EZV might be a good match, the EZV sight is pretty lite correct, compared to say my HHA slider with 4X lens? Worst case it will be fun to try one and give itan honest try.

Well I am back from the range. I don't know what I was thinking with the bow speed=arrow speed that was dumb I've done those calculations before but totally forgot it all. Anyhow, after some trial and error that could have been shorter had I logged back in, I've got it pretty dialed in at 20-30 yards, but ran out of time to test much further than that and don't plan on taking any shots past that for now/likely the whole season. More practice sessions before now and then though so perhaps I'll get some time in at 40-50 on the range. I'm not honestly sure exactly what my arrows weigh, but my kitchen scale has an arrow at 27 grams so 415ish. I believe my arrows are 8 gpi and I am using 125g heads, luminock lighted nocks and ? Bass pro shops insert. I've got a 30 inch draw. Puts me in the 260 insert range with online calculators (not exactly sure how much weight I've added to my bowstring as well but I think about 45g?) which matches up with my trial and error pretty well, I think I settled on the 270 insert

The 20 yard tick mark is in the same location on all the different inserts so u don't loose ur 20 when switching the inserts around trying to find the correct insert

A feature I like about this sight not mentioned often is the ability to swap FPS easy. After a long few weekends of failed arrow builds this year. I went all over the board from 220fps to 280. This sight was nice for the quick swap insert and go factor. I would have swapped several sight tapes by now and spent a lot of time guessing.

I have a chrono and know my arrow weight and speed. So I go to put the 240 insert in and its good at 20, okay at 30 and was getting bad at 40/50/60. So I called Aaron and he asked me what my arrow weight was, it is over 600 (insert Ranch Fairy comments here). He immediately said change from the 240 and go UP to the 250 insert. This is due to the fact (yes fact) that heavier arrows are not slowing down at the same rate as lighter arrows. As soon as I changed inserts, My arrows were in the vitals on a 3D target from 20-60. It was pretty cool. Like @Weldabeast stated, all the inserts 20 yard tick marks are the same, so maybe try going up an insert also even if it seems counter intuitive.

They are difficult....push forcefully where the little nubs located on the insert, alternating left to right. Once they are lubed its easier

great discussion so far, thank you for the tips/ insight. one thing i'll disagree with- swapping these inserts aint easy! i feel like i am going to break it every time i pop one out.
I just take a small ball end hex. Push in the side hole while applying pressure to the insert. Swap to the other side. They pop out super easy.

Also a good idea. I stuck with the manufacturer reccomendation of alternating pushing on top and bottom to"walk" them out but pushing on the buttons seems to make more sense

Had a similar situation here on a heavier arrow setup and not being able to get a good zero at 40 yards. Arrows were sighted in at 20 & 30 but once I got in the tree for practice I kept hitting high at 40 so I did the same and went up on insert speed, but only because I didn't have anything lower than 240. Sure enough, moving up an insert (or two?) got me squared away to 60 yards. The heavier arrows are holding their speed longer and not dropping as fast as lighter arrows so they impact higher than expected at the longer ranges.
Does anyone happen to know the actual arrow weight that was used to calculate the sight algorithm?

You can call Aaron directly and he will answer any question you have. Super awesome guy.
