I just acquired a bag of these...

Do they have value, combined with a small platform...like a ring of steps.

Or not stable enough?

I bought 2 of these to try for this same reason. Haven’t used them much but the couple times I’ve tried them, they’re not too bad. In my opinion you have to get them pretty secured and set well the the tree and even still they are a little floppy. If you keep your main weight on your platform and use these steps mainly to lean out/around the tree on just for stability, I think they work ok for that. Personally I would not like them what so ever for supporting all of my weight or an ROS.

I tried some of these, but did not like that they always seemed to have a little give to them. If it moves, it will definitely make noise whenever I try to get into position to shoot. Maybe it was operator error, as I gave up on them pretty quickly? I took the steps off of the ropes and am using them on a strap with an OCB, and they tighten down nicely and work great. I use them on preset trees, so I don’t have to remove and install them very often. If you don’t like them with the ropes, try taking the step off and putting it on a strap with an OCB or ratchet, and see what you think of them.
