That's the way I've always done it too. Great winter fun with the pistol and snowshoes (both the rabbit species and on my feet:)).
Been wanting to snowshoe for snowshoes, was talking with my buddy about it this last season. Hmm.

Frogs were fun till I started fishing them commercially. Got burnt out.

Nutria hunting is my favorite now...still get paid with a lot less work involved.

I have a theory that once you do something for money it will become an obligation and you will learn to hate it. I had a few opportunities to get into guiding a chartering fishing boats in highschool and college and i am happy i passed for that reason.

I'm relatively new to hunting. I think this is year 7 for deer. Last year I decided to shoot a squirrel, and really liked the taste, so I think I'm going to take that up more seriously this year.
I have thought about getting into turkeys, but in Michigan where I was there just wasn't decent sized pieces of land to chase them... That's way different here in Kentucky! Every day as I drive through the DBNF to head to town, I'm seeing birds, and there is plenty of room to get after them. I believe we are allowed up to 6 birds between the spring and fall seasons. So I'll probably give them a go, as well.

I have wanted to try for several years too. I ordered some inexpensive ones off Ebay last spring, which will pretty much guarantee we won't get more than 3 inches of snow at any time for the next 5 winters.

Unfortunately the snowshoe hare numbers have taken a serious hit up here with the increase in predation (aka coyotes) over the last 10 years. The snowshoes often turn white before the snow stays for keeps and the coyotes have a field day with white bunnies in the brown woods. When that happens the rabbits think they're hidden when in fact they look like someone lost a gallon of milk while walking through the woods. It used to be I could go out and see a dozen different snowshoes in a couple of hours. I think I've only seen 3 total in the last two years.

Only been hunting for 5 years, (and learning mostly on my own) but of all the things I've done...

Turkey is the best, above deer and everything else. That feeling you get when you hear (and if they're close enough, almost feel) that gobble is unmatched. Audible feedback on whether or not you're doing OK is nice too!

Squirrel is nice because you don't have to take it super seriously (but you can if you want to). It can be a stroll in the woods with a gun, or you can put as much effort into it as deer. I like to grab my .22 after work, throw some camo and orange over my work clothes, and take a stroll in the small state game lands nearby. It's a nice way to clear your mind after work, and get some dinner too. I don't enjoy cleaning squirrels though. The effort:meat ratio isn't great.

Waterfowl, I'd really like to get into (like turkey, I love learning to call), but I don't have any friends that are interested, and I think it just seems like something that would be more fun with friends. I've gotten my duck stamp every year, just don't really head out. I did get one bird, a banded Canada Goose that I got from my kayak an hour before work (can't say I've ever changed from waders to business casual clothing before). I thought it tasted pretty darn good, not sure where goose's reputation for tasting bad came from.

I enjoy hearing that gobble first thing in the morning, it gets the blood to pumping.

Really I enjoy hunting anything that gets me out of the house and in the woods. It's the kid in me, getting to walk around in the woods shooting animals with my gun or bow.

Bear hunting for me. Just something about how such a large animal can be so quiet. Plus I love the meat!

I killed my first DIY bow bear last season. I'm still haunted by the death moan. I put the arrow through his heart and he piled up w/in 45 yards. Do you get used to it over time?
