Favorite Pack!

Thanks- I’ve in the market for a new pack was looking at Kuiu and Horn Hunter - this one looks like it has all that I need especially with multiple lashing buckles. I know you mentioned the aluminum stays but how’s the torsional rigidity? Is the internal frame plastic with aluminum stays?

Those aluminum stays or semi frame is all it has. No plastic frame. To be clear tho this isn't a true frame pack. It will ride and act similar under ordinary loads, but I don't think it's stout enough to pack a animal out.

Seems pretty good

May need to get my hands on one

I just need a little rigidity for more comfy carrying platform and 4 heliums

I think I found my new favorite pack for saddle hunting. I love this thing!

I like how you ran your stick platform underneath. Glad you found a good pack for you, that can be tough.

A note on the ventilated portion, hiking packs have gone this way for awhile. Some examples:

I believe a number of other Badlands packs are ventilated, I seem to recall the Dash is one.

I love my EXO I grab it more and more every season. Pretty sure I am just going to run it all the time this year. I have the 1800 bag on and I switch to the 3200 when it gets cold and I need a heavy layer.

I pack in a good distance, and know going in I'll be a sweaty mess. No matter the temp, I always wear a t-shirt and longjohn bottoms in. Bag them up when I change for the hunt (along with socks).

Reducing sweat with better airflow and keeping most of that sweat to the garments that will get bagged is helpful.

I have been gambling with packs a bit and haven't quite hit the mark yet. The one that carries my specific platform setup most efficiently, so far, is a more typical lumbar support internal frame backpack style with some air channels. It's not as nice a design as the ventilated models for accomplishing scent minimalization.

I've a .5 and it probably does a better job of keeping sweat down than my platform and backpack set, and it's maybe less of a wick. That's just another plus for me with the .5..

But the vented packs probably tie lumbar packs for cooling, with more comfort in many cases, and more capacity. I don't want my outerwear touching my back, which is a strike against lumbar packs for my usage.

Again, glad you found a pack that works great for you. It may be the bag for many others, or some may find a different bag that speaks to them with similar qualities as a result of you pointing out that feature in your vid.

Thanks - I'm not looking to pack out anything (I have a technical backpacking pack that I can pack out if necessary) - wanted to know if the pack would fold or compress easily on the long axis - vertically? - doesn't look like it will fold horizontally since it has the two metal stays - thanks

IT can but I wouldn't say it's easy...they almost act like a spring. You can press on the pack and they bounce it right back upright

I've been known to carry a shirt in ziplocks and change at the tree many times. Especially in my treestand days

I like that idea! using ziplocks I'm going to have to steal that from you - - I'm surprised a hunting company hasn't branded a "custom bag system" to market and sale to us
Yeah I used to carry 2 ziplocks. 1 for clean. 1 for sweaty. change in the stand. only way i could keep from freezing

Just got this pack and it's pretty impressive (especially for the price I paid for ~$98 on TSC) - the fabric of the pack is a lightweight felt-like material and the zippers have a vinyl coating. The metal stays aren't parallel but are closer together at top - the distance increases from one another at bottom of pack - both stays are connected to what seems to be a hard plastic top and bottom - together the frame forms an isosceles trapezoid.

Only downside initially is the waist buckle doesn't really buckle due to the male end being a little narrow for the female end....let the jokes begin haha! I think I'll heat it up and stretch it out so it can hold better. There are some lose ends on the sewing that I'll burn off.

I've put it under blue/black light - doesn't glow all that much just some of the white speckles - I have the Disruption camo - glows less than some of my cheap Academy camo.

Thanks Zacrowsl for the review - this will be my go to pack for hopefully many years. I purchased an Osprey Kestrel and Alpz Pursuit - returned both and I'm happy on my first impressions of this pack.

Glad to be getting some feedback. I'm several hunts in and still feel the same. Great pack
