Im a little late to the party here....G2 asked why anyone wouldnt just use a havalon. I had to think about that one. I have one and really like it...right now its just a back up though. I have broken a blade once or twice in the field..but the biggest problem I was having was I dont break/cut the pelvic bone. I just cut around the vent from the inside and out....and pull out along with the guts. Kinda like a butt out tool..but dont need to carry another tool. The havalon was just a little short for getting up as far as I needed to cut the membrane.
Right now, im using a bark river fox river....Love that knife....stays crazy sharp for at least 3-4 deer before I need to strop it. There is a more sentimental reason as well. If I ever get the chance to pass down my Hunting knife to one of my kids...I think it would be nicer to hand down the Bark river then a havalon....lol...but that is just how I was thinking about it.
