Long story short, our house backs up to 60 wooded acres and a creek behind our house. I already filled my buck tag and was thinking about going out to fill my second tag that would be for only here in SW Ohio. Went out in the backyard today to make sure everything is still poi. I get my targets set up and take a few shots, walk to get my arrows and back to my 20 yard mark and turn around and see this. She hung around for more than an hour and got to within 5 feet of me at times. I only feed the deer corn when the temps get well below freezing and they were -34 for two days straight here. Will never shoot a deer in my backyard and I have trail cam pics of a huge 12 pointer. I learn a lot from my backyard deer that translates to me hunting public. Seemed like she trusted me and I just gave her the respect so she could eat. I have videos of this too but don’t know if I can post vids. Thanks for reading and responding, Adam

I would love to take her but she’s in the backyard. If I did shoot her then my guilty conscience takes over. I’m all about fair chase and not poaching. I’ll take my chances on public and k ow I out smarted the deer. It would be different if I owned that 60 acres behind me, but I still wouldn’t shoot one right in my backyard

I wish I could post the videos so you could see how close she was. After awhile she started eating 5 yards from my shooting lane. She never once reacted to my bow but reacted to my arrow impact on the target. Was still special to see a deer that close up. It’s like she trusted me and I just gave her respect so she could eat. I could see her blinking and her breath and I think that’s something special. On public land she’s down

Totally get it. Sometimes they fire ya up sometimes they don’t. I wouldn’t shoot the doe in the back yard either. She’s not acting like prey, she’s acting like she’s part of the community. I’m thinking the Seek One dudes don’t think like that though????

To post a video you have to make a YouTube channel, make the video, and post a link. It’s super easy and a a lot of fun. You should do it! I’d subscribe.

That's a daily occurrence here. I don't feed them but they are within easy recurve range of my back door a lot. I could easily slide open the door and kill a few, but that would be cheating IMO.
I think the year was 2008 (?) that my target buck hung around the house during the 1st 2 days of the PA firearms season. 4 hours the 1st day and 3 hours the 2nd day. I could have easily, and legally stuck the gun out the door and filled my buck tag, but I let that 140 1/8" buck go. How do I know his score? The neighbor killed him on the 3rd day.
I have no regrets for not killing him. Gotta play fair to the critters.

I had a very big doe within 6 or 7 yards at my in-law's house a while back. It was really cool being that close to her. I was unloading the car and looked up and there she was. I expected her to turn inside out getting away from me, but she just stood there and looked at me then went back to grazing on the side yard grass. She was dead downwind of me too. I stood there and watched her for about 10 minutes. It was a cool encounter.

Before traveling through this heart my arrow started its initial flight from my son’s bedroom window. I like the chase, too…but if I have extra tags and it’s legal I don’t discriminate. ;)
