I finally got it done yesterday, after 6 hours in the rain. This has been the hardest year hunting in memory for me. My tree umbrella helped a lot but i was soaked to the bone. My shot hit her in the neck, im guessing she saw me as i released the arrow (which was lost). She tried to spin and dropped low, my arrow hit her in the neck and severed her spine. Never took a step....guess its better to be lucky than good ;-) Very fat doe and a really good size. Super happy today. It was a hour drag to get her out and then a 15 minute kayak trip

Excellent!
Gorgeous meat.
I once had a deer swap ends as my arrow was in flight. Arrow slashed the femoral and it bled out as if I'd heart shot it.

Yes but i wanted the heart and liver and dont like them to get too dirty. i usually take zip locks for them but forgot them

Congrats!

How do you prepare the liver? I cooked one last year and other people liked it, but all I could taste was the "smell" of when I was handling/prepping it. I just got a nice buck last Sunday and saved the liver (heart is a give in - I eat that the night of) but have not really decided what to do with it. I sliced it and froze for now.

I brine it for 2 days in salt water and then fry it up with butter, garlic and onions
