First AR build

I’ve been wanting a 6.5 Grendel but am not sure if I would be better off building it or just buying an upper. By the time you buy the gauges, wrenches, vise blocks, etc., you might be better off just buying the upper. I have a .22 upper and a .450 Bushmaster, so this would probably be the last upper I NEED!

Think like a Liberal, you don't want us to own guns so you try to impose laws that make useful features illegal?

I watched a video where the woman ripped this sort of law apart using the word "shootier". As in, a pistol grip doesn't make an AR15 "shootier". A shoulder thing that goes up also doesn't make an AR15 "shootier". lol

FWIW I have 2 or 3 friends who are liberal or even further left and have AR15 rifles. I wish we could come up with a better name. I'm starting to lean toward going back to calling them commies.

So what AR calibre do you guys hunt deer with?

I've shot hogs, whitetail, numerous coyotes and an antelope with an AR chambered in 5.56 using .223 ammo loaded to suit my needs on whatever I was hunting. For guys that don't re-load, Hornady makes a variety of game specific loads that work great. Nothing beats a well placed shot though.

PSA just had a sale on a 350 Legend uppers, so I'm gonna give that a go this year.
That is supposed to be a great gun for kids, women, or anyone not wanting the kick or muzzle blast of a .450 bushmaster and still legal in the straight-walled states

Occasionally the 300 blackout or my grendel. Looking for a lighter barrel for the grendel to make it a 16.5 inch feather weight.

I built a 300 blackout gonna try it out rifle season. I didn't discover the 350 legend until I after I was deep into the build. I read mixed reviews on the legend round though.

I will probably build a 556 upper next and have a twofur

I have build several in various calibers, 6.5 grendel is the best overall round for ar-15 platform. You will not regret building an upper in this cal.
May want to also try 6.5 in a short barrel (12"). Still very deadly on deer out to 300 yds while being very compact and lightweight. Research some and see, Good luck. BTW its really very easy to build....

I built a 224 Valkyrie AR last year for hunting but haven’t got to hunt with it yet. Want to shoot some pigs this summer and maybe a doe with it this fall. I’m happy with the build, it’s the first time I’ve built anything for precision and it plinks 8” steel plates all day at 700 although you can barely hear the hit with that little 22 cal bullet.

i use a 6.8spc for whitetail. haven't had issues. i use AR Perfomance barrels. for the price you can't beat his accuracy.

builds are pretty straight forward, use well known namebrand parts and you shouldn't have many issues. biggest problem i read about are cycling issues. make sure your gas port is properly aligned and hand cycle the unit 200-300 times before chambering a round. and use lots of lube

good luck and watch out for "BRD'

223 wylde full upper come in mail today and got a 6.5 grendel coming. I'll probably put my hogster 35mm thermal on it

6.8 SPC 10.5" pistol is my bean field gun for the shotgun zone in MN. Trigger, barrel and optics are where I chose to spend my money and it's paid off with consistent sub MOA groups. Upgraded the forearm to carbon fiber after hanging on to cold aluminum a couple seasons.

I’ve been thinking about doing an AR build in .450 Bushmaster. Sounds fun to me.
