So with the mantis saddles starting to ship and a few projects that i had in mind i decided to give splicing a run. I made my first bridge out of amsteel today tested it and it was surprisingly pretty easy. The next one i make i will attach to my kestrel incase my mantis does not arrive before Saturday. I’ll go and lock stitch it. This one pictured is just a little over 30 inches (im still trying to figure the math out to be more accurate... i was shooting for 28). @Boomah21 picked up my MR28 pack and asked if i would be willing to make one for him so here it is. Btw i tested this and it held without a doubt. Also @g2outdoors thanks for the video as it was a breeze!!

Burys look nice and long. Good. Looks like you may need to taper one end. You don't want that bump in there. It will male sliding on your carabiner a little tougher.

Sent from my Galaxy S8.

I was having some difficulty there with the taper. I’ll probably pull it out and try it again. Thanks for the input

Nice job - Amsteel, with a fid and push rod is so easy to splice. I make new ropes every year for my sticks and I can customized them to where they barely slip over versa - they ain't coming off. I still a stiffer prefer rope for my bridge (currently using the smaller sized Samson Ultratek with two sewn loops) but Amsteel is great. I do use it on fleece saddles as my bridge.

I made a pull rope today with some which honestly is way overkill but its so light and packable. I have one bridge left to make which will be lock stitched. Overall im pleased idk why i waited so long to do this.

I’ve been playing with a new diy LB and tether this year. Using it on my TL saddle (‘07 model). I went with the Blue Water Assault line and Ropeman 1 because it’s what I had. I simply tied knots for both lines since I haven’t spliced anything yet. Is the BWA rope a good rope to splice? I’ve noticed most videos on splicing the double-braided lines with a core seemed to be line that wasn’t as stiff as the BWA. Anyone tried splicing this stuff? Here’s a pic of my tether being tested at ground level.

I made an amsteel daisy chain gear hanger but I think I need to use 1/4” rope instead as the 3/8” is just a tad too bulky. Still way lighter than the lone wolf gear hanger with cam buckle I used to run. I also dutched the opposite end trying to bury two tag ends. Just couldn’t get that last end to bury so in the end left it and just put a lock stitch in it. Still I guess not too shabby for first time doing something like this.

That’s pretty slick @d_rek! I’ve been thinking about moving to the daisy chain gear strap as well. Seems like a really good place to start learning the slicing game!

I saw that on your other post in another thread. I really like that. You said you weren't sure if the loops would allow enough adjustment. Have you tested it more? Can you give any more info on it? How long of Amsteel did you start with and what is the finished length? I assume there are Youtube vids on daisy chaining Amsteel?? Have a link to any? Thanks.

There aren’t any great links or videos online that I found. Here’s what I did, though there might be a much better way lol:

Start with about 6-8ft of rope.
Fold in half and mark mid way point and points on both sides of the size of your eye where you want to splice.
Add locked brummels and then splice your eye.
At this point you should have equal lengths of rope on either side of your eye.
Start feeding rope through the middle of the each other. I did about 1.5” increments, alternating which rope was fed through each time.
When you get to the end you want to leave enough tag end to do and end to end splice.

Here’s another one I made that turned out a little nicer. Still think there’s probably a better way to do some of the steps but I’m a total amateur lol.

Those look nice! I would run the loops a little bigger. 3-5” makes it nice to get your gear just where you want it without having to unclip. I ran my paracord model last night for the first time it was perfect.

Thanks for the reply, but I gotta say I'm a little confused by your description.
I am sitting here messing with 1/4" Amsteel and I think I may have a solution. It may be very similar to what you did...maybe not.I think I see how to do a daisy chain...looks very simple. Just leave a long tag end by the eye and just repeat the lock over and over until I get to the bury and bury as normal. On the other end of the Amsteel, I'll do a lock stitch to create that loop, which will be the permanently attached to the stand loop. The other end will be the daisy chained end with the multiple loops for adjusting.
Sound feasible and safe?
I see no reason to daisy chain the entire length for the stand rope. Even a 5 inch tree won't need adjustment loops from end to end. My thoughts on not daisy chaining the entire length is to save on rope. I already have an 8 foot piece of Amsteel and Daisy chaining the entire length seems like I would end up with a shorter rope that may not fit around larger trees. ????
Hey, I'm a rookie at splicing so maybe I'm all wet.

Idk. I couldn’t figure out how to make a continuous daisy without two tag ends. But like I said I’m an amateur.

Oh, I'm a rank amateur, too. I'm just thinking there's no need full full daisy chain for the entire length (to maximize an foot initial rope length.
Maybe if I go back a watch g2 splicing vids, I'll understand it better.

If you started with an 8 foot rope, what was the finished length after daisy chaining?

Well, I made a daisy chained Amsteel rope for the Predator. I tested it on several trees and I don't think it works as well as just tying a knot. It seems like the Predator is a bit finicky when it comes to strap/rope tightness. With the stock strap, the platform is rock solid even when lateral pressure is extreme. I also got it very tight with the rope and a knot. But the trees I tested the daisy chain on were all an "in-between" size...too loose for one daisy loop and too tight to reach the next loop. When I would step out on the extreme side to shoot behind the tree, the platform would sometimes shift...sometimes not, too but it wasn't dependable.
Plus, for an 18 inch tree, an 8 foot piece of Amsteel doesn't seem long enough after daisy chaining. D chaining the rope was a good idea but IMO, it limits getting the proper cam-over tension.
