Fishing Thread

Yeah, buddy. The Youghiogheny River. PM and I'll give ya the exact spot if you want. Saw some studs that I couldn't get to bite
I grew up just south of Friendsville,so I spent a lot of time hunting and fishing around the Yough. I live just a few miles from the Yough lake now. I appreciate the offer but, I can never find the time to hit the river anymore. I was just curious what part of Western MD you were in.

Smallmouth are my favorite. I had access to a stretch of river in CT that was loaded with them. Minimum was 12” to keep, but there were so many that I never caught a 12” fish, lol.

However.....it was nothing to catch 100+ fish in a day and I only fished about 200 yds of the river. Ankle deep pea gravel on the side I accessed from that slowly deepened to a cut bank on the far side. Amazing stretch of river.

My wife’s family lived in Friendsville and that’s around where I was fishing. I might need to pick your brain before my next trip there

Man sign me up for that! I’ve got a reservoir nearby that I know has them but it’s giant and I’ve got no idea where to start and need to find some time to pick it apart

Since this is a fishy thread, Anyone know of a small pontoon boat for sale or pontoons to build a bowfish rig?

It's been about 20 years since I fished the river much and all of my fishing was for trout from Kendall (about 2 miles above Friendsville) up river but, Ill tell you what I know. Better yet, give me some notice and if I am around we can hit the Yough lake in the boat.

If you’re in CT I can put you on it.

The first civilian I meet up there was a GW and we became damn good friends. On my off days I would on in the cruiser with him and he’d drop me off all over the place. Normally behind gates, lol.

Normally I would fish all the down to the next road crossing and he would pick up on his way home. The damn good life.

This place was in NE CT. There was a small dam built that the residents protested then finally got it shut down. The road passed right behind the dam. There was a church on the opposite side of the road and a large private (I think the church owned it) field between the church and the river. There was a gated two track that he had a key to and we would drop me off and I would fish all day within sight of the dam and the church.

Ultralight spinning reel with 4# test and box full of the smallest floating Rapalas.

Amazing stretch of river.

I love to paddle the Yough. Rafted the class 5 upper several years ago and canoed the middle and lower in Ohiopyle many times.
Beautiful river.

My parents live and I grew up about 1000' in elevation above the Upper Yough. There was 2500 acres between them and the river that we were allowed to cross to go down and fish the river. We were also allowed to rifle hunt it but the old man that owned it didn't believe in bow or muzzleloader hunting.

It's pretty crazy when your standing there trout fishing and they have a release. In a matter of minutes the water goes from somewhat calm to a raging river. That waters too big for me to paddle, I stay away from stretches of river that have back boards hanging from trees every so often for easy access.

They let the dam out while we were fishing. My boy and I were out in the middle of it in about knee high water for me in most spots. Wife and daughter were on a beachy spot chilling. My boy is only 3 and was just chilling next to me on a rock. I was facing down stream and all the sudden felt current on the back of my legs. I didn’t waste a dang bit of time getting to shore and we ultimately had to pack up our little picnic and left. It was insane how quick it came up and how rough it got.
