Forecasting Wind Direction

What resources do people use to try and forecast wind direction for a different time period in the same day or for the following day(s). Or are there some standard rules of thumb that can be used based on conditions, fronts moving in, etc.

For example, I’ve got a spot that I can hunt with any wind other than a north wind. Tonight it was a north wind. What’s the best way to try and determine what the wind direction will be tomorrow morning/afternoon/evening?

Same, uses multiple models that you can compare and choose from. Seems to be pretty accurate and it shows the flow path over the area you’re looking at.

This is all great, but in a pinch, the weather app on my iPhone predicts wind also. It hasn’t let me down yet. OnX and other hunting apps do too.

This^^^ without a doubt.
But all wind forecasts are based on prevailing wind. They don't show surface wind. Learning surface wind behavior is extremely complex but it can be learned...to an extent. There are so many variables involved that effect surface wind.
We need to learn how terrain and cover effect prevailing wind of a given direction. There are patterns, but they can be really complicated in hilly terrain.
Try Windy.com
Its the best tool Ive seen for predicting prevailing wind in relation to terrain. But NO SITE SHOWS SURFACE WIND, OTHER THAN IN THE EXACT LOCATION THE READING WAS TAKEN.
Wundermap shows personal weather stations that individual people own. But it only shows what the surface wind is doing in that exact spot. Terrain changes surface wind from what the prevailing wind is doing, just like rocks in a stream makes current eddy...same concept.
