I shot 100 grain Montecs a few years back, but this year shooting 125s next to Spitfires, the Montecs have a pretty noticeable sound to them. I’m considering (1) ignoring it, (2) buying another pack of Spitfires, or (3) getting some 125 Strikers hoping they’re a little quieter. I’ve shot Spitfires forever with no issues but was considering fixed this year. Any advice?

Is it just the speed of your bow/setup? I don’t hear a whisper out of Montecs, but my bow shoots under 290 fps the way it’s set. I would imagine the Strikers would be louder since they’re not one-piece construction, but maybe not.

Try Slick Tricks or Ramcats. They fly great and are quite. I use to shoot Montecs but they whistled so I don't use them anymore.

Any broadhead (vented or not) is going to generate noise. One thing to consider is that the noise we hear as the arrow is leaving us is going to sound vastly different on the receiving end of the broadhead (in both frequency and amplitude). If you're really curious, setup your phone to record audio next to your target. Then compare the noise a field point makes vs a montec vs a spitfire. I have a sneaking suspicion that the difference (assumming a properly tuned bow) is going to be relatively negligible.

I've shot montecs in the past and had good luck with them. There have been countless deer harvested every year with montecs with no problems. This year I'm experimenting with solid one piece single bevels, but if I have to fall back on a broadhead it'll be my montecs. I say shoot what works best for you and don't sweat the small stuff :)

I cant speak to the noise, but I was never happy with the size holes my Montecs made. I loved how they penetrated and how they flew but I couldn't get over the small hole. Just my 2 cents.

Which Ramcats do you have in mind?

I have to admit, I do like the quietness and confidence I have in Spitfires... if at the moment I put a little grip torque in etc I can expect they won’t magnify it. I’m at 30” x 65lbs with a bow that does 340 ibo and don’t shoot past 35-40, so penetrations never been an issue. But the advice here is helpful since I still wanna give fixed blades a run.

Hard to know... guessing I’m a bit over 290 but I’d have to reset inserts to make the fletchings line up.

My Slick Trick do not my noise like the Montecs actually I shot alot of vented broadheads over the years and none of them make the noise the Montecs do .

I shot Slick Tricks for the last couple years, between the magnums, grizztricks and vipertricks and they all made noise for me, but it never effected how the deer reacted on the shot for me. I went to a non-vented single bevel that are super quiet this year and I wouldn't hesitate to go back to the slick tricks. I don't know what speed my bow isn't shooting but I can't imagine its above 280.
