Game Changer

Some great replies so far! I usually budget $400 for gas for the season. Most of my hunting grounds are 25 to 30 miles away. This year I plan to have $1000 set aside just for gas. If I don't use it all I will just be ahead for next season.
I am figuring on $1000 for this season too. I am almost there with what I have squirrelled away so far. I am planning on $5.50 a gallon so who knows what it will be come fall.

Prices may actually fall based on several factors. One is if production increases, increasing supply. Secondly, gas is usually higher in the summer any given year because of increased demand, and finally the outcome of the midterms in November will have some effect on it too.

It was mentioned earlier, and I will add to it that the pandemic really highlighted to me how much money we were mindlessly spending normally. We came out roughly $7000 a year ahead by decreasing our shopping trips and eating out.

My wife and I did the beans and rice thing the first 2 years of our marriage and got rid of all debt early on. Talk about a game changer!

We have a mortgage and one car payment (two vehicles), but together they only add up to about half of the average mortgage in my county. Finally paid off the little bit of student debt and BS credit card debt we incurred as a result of being 2 dumb kids.

It feels good literally every day and has for the past year.

As far as gas, let's say I'm not buying Mississippi license again this year. I've got more acreage than I can cover within 20 minutes. I'll probably sneak in a trip or two up the road since the Scooby-Doo gets 32mph, but if I can't oh well.

Im averaging 47 mpg out of my 2014 jetta tdi and 9 mpg out of my truck (sbc). Diesel is about $6 here in se Indiana so I have already started looking at either getting a roof rack or a hitch and carrier for the jetta... average hunting place for me is about 45 min away so ill have to figure something out.. i drive 54 miles one way to work everyday and my wallet feels that

It's about 2.5 hour drive for me to my hunting ground. Probably going to see if I can do a whole week rather than 2-3 day trips or something like that.

I won't complain though as I've been very lucky to work from home so I don't spend much on fuel in a typical week.

I have an ebike coming later this year that I intend to take through local private I can go on to get to the backside of remote public. So straight from my house to the woods on the ebike. And my job is only 4 miles away so I'll be commuting nonstop with the bike. I've been biking to work on my normal bike and it's funny because numerous coworkers think I don't have a car cause I don't take it lol just hate spending money on gas that much. Besides the bike having no operating costs it also works out the most important machine you'll ever know in your life your heart
