I'm in the same boat. Never done it before but want to convenience and the mobility of it and not have to take a climber in with my bow. I have a friend that is giving me an old but in new condition saddle and linemans belt. He said all I would need is what I'm going to climb the tree with. Guess my question would be what is better? I've seen platform's or just steps. I think a platform would be so you wouldnt have to worry about screwing in and out the steps when you get in a tree. Any info is appreciated. Thanks for starting this thread!

For beginners sticks maybe better.A platform will be better for first timers, once you climb.

cannot specify which because I did not take this advise. I am doing a DIY but regardless go the platform route.
Which saddle? Again I went the diy route with a sitdrag and rch. May do something different like a mantis or flex next year. Don’t let gear stop you . Once you have climbing method licked the rest is easier (not easy or cheap). There are the finest instructors on this site, a lot have you tube videos boynebowhunter, nutterbuster, Cain, jamiecline,Davet1963,Dano, to name a few,

Some beginners advice from Donnieballgame in newcomers section, another good instructor as is G2 outdoors, can’t name all and sure I forgot someone

I just got an H2 saddle not long ago. My first saddle and have never tried any other saddle yet. It works just fine for me. Nice and comfortable as long as the leg straps aren’t too tight. I’m sure the kestrel flex may be nicer but it’s noticeably more expensive and you have to wait for it a lot longer. Although at this point in the season that might not matter as much i guess. I got my H2 within 10 days I think. I think it’s a good one and has features that the big two companies have in their saddles. Works great. I recommend them.
