I have an old set that I shortened and added buttons & aiders to, I haven't used them in quite some time. Aside from the weight, the major problem is you can"t readily get parts to modify them due to the square tubing being some metric size slightly over 1". Also, my recollection is that they have a tendency to kick out, even when using straps.

thanks. the whole design of the cleat does seem like a kick out hazard...though i haven't had it happen on mine. I didnt see how buttons could be added as they stack so tight.
