Hiya,
I'm brand new to this forum. It's awesome. Anyway... Successful hunt with my primitive bow!

I got this deer yesterday morning with my primitive Horse bow...the type of bow Ghengis Kahn and other people of the Steppes used in that era.

Horse bows, often called Horn bows are the highest tech, highest performance of primitive bows. This bow draws 66 lbs @ 28" and shoots an arrow FAST. It is noted in history that Kahn and his troops had at minimum 250 yards more distance capability over the English with their long bows. I love my horse bow!

I made a good shot on this deer and like it should be it was a clean, ethical, immediate kill. Praise Jesus for the hunt and the animal and the meat. I needed it. I was in my TL saddle about 18' off the ground.
She came in to my right. I shot her at about 20 yards with a modern carbon arrow wearing a ThunderHead 125 grn. Broadhead. I hit her in the near side shoulder. She jumped about 5 yards and didn't land it. She hit the ground and tumbled onto her side. She jumped back up instantly then ran about 20 yards and hit the ground grave yard dead.

The arrow hit the near side shoulder, went through the abdominal cavity getting a lung and literally cut or broke the very top of the far side front leg bone. in the pic you can see the broadhead pushing her hide out about 2" at her right front "arm pit."

On butchering her I have never seen anything like it from archery tackle. The meat looked like it had been hit with the bullet from a high powered rifle!

I'm happy to have connected with this amazing creature and I'm honored to have got to "set her free" as my friend puts it. I have the utmost respect and appreciation for wild things and the circle of life.

Thanks for celebrating with me crew,
Umbra

I'm actually going to brush up on my knapping, knap out some stone points and fabricate some wooden arrow for them and take a deer with full primitive tackle next. Thats the plan!

I shot a couple arrows from a horse bow and there is definitely a learning curve. Congrats on a huge accomplishment and successful hunt.

Thanks for the enthusiasm and welcome everyone. It truly was a special experience and huge accomplishment.

That's awesome. I LOVE the history of the Mongols. I tried the primitive thing a bit last off season but didn't have the time to commit. But the horse bow has be interested again. That is simple beauty right there.
Happy to have you here.
