Hand ascender teeth wear on DRT rope

Looking at the friction sleeves I was at my local hardware store and ran across this. southwire ultratite non-metal liquid-tight 50-ft conduit https://www.homedepot.com/p/Southwi...e-Non-Metallic-PVC-Conduit-55094322/300916636

It is hard, but flexible plastic that I think would be repurposed for a friction sleeve. It was on clearance for 1.00 a foot. They only had about 8 foot so i got all of it and will test it on my maple trees.

I tried it and it did not work. I figured you need more friction on the outside than the inside. Metal on the inside, plastic on the outside, provides this.
