Fellow hunters....

I know EVERYONE has fallen asleep in a deer STAND once or twice in their life. Who has in a saddle, and in your opinion would that be hugely detrimental to fall asleep? I am still waiting on my first saddle so I can't judge how safe I will feel verses using a full body harness.

I tend to sleep more often than I want to ..... it's relatively easy and comfortable to catch some z's... you can make a saddle as safe or not so safe as you wish. Only you know your tolerances, you can pick up chest rigs or even make diy rigs with the proper equipment to restrict you upper body. That's just one example, the point is the possibilities are endless and only restricted by your imagination. You can safely doze in a saddle with or without a back strap or chest rig!

I have taken a little siesta from time to time while in stand. I just throw the backband on and tighten it up a bit so that I can rest on my bridge. I feel safer napping there than in a hang-on tree stand being that I am at the end of my support system with no room to fall whereas, in a conventional stand, you have some slack in your safety system and that is a unnerving wake up call (free-fall feeling) when startled awoke elevated off the ground.

"You might be a redneck if you have a carabiner shaped indentation in your forehead. "
I was telling a coworker I was out for a walk and saw a squirrel dead in the road. It was still warm so brought it home and cooked it. He said I was a redneck and I responded, "Thank you for the compliment". :D

I routinely sleep in my saddle on all day sits. Here’s how I do it. Place backpack on tether about knee high so when you sit down, legs end up wrapping around it and the tree giving a nice little cushion to rest against. I then take my recliner strap and place that around my back and through my figure 8. This allows me to fully rest and place all my weight on the saddle and back support. If my back support were to snap/let go, I wouldn’t go anywhere as my legs are already wrapped around my pack/tree. Doing the above I have taken many many naps at height. Sometimes I’ll take the recliner strap and go over one shoulder and under the other arm to give me a head rest to sleep on.

My second season in a saddle n hunted small lock ons before that. Always scared the crap out of me in the lock ons when I’d wake up with that falling off a cliff feeling. Fell asleep one morning in a saddle this year and woke up refreshed and ready to slay some deer.

I’ve taken more cat naps in my JX3 this season than I have the last 5 years combined.( probably not good) Always felt like I was sitting on edge of cliff in a lock on.

I fall asleep almost anywhere lol. I don’t sleep as long in a saddle cause the carabiner is right where my head wants to rest. Been considering getting a small cushion to put on the tether to cover the biner. Lol

I bet a neck pillow would fit the bill! I’d never see any deer haha

I’ve slept in the saddle more this season than I would like to admit. Occasionally I wake up falling and my jumping wis lol actually cause me to fall (or rather swing into the tree.

Nope... just can't see how anyone could ever fall asleep in a saddle. ;)

I lightly nap pretty regularly in mine, just like I did in my Summit. In the saddle I sit knees to the tree, lean forward and rest my head on the bridge. If I'm snoozing, most of the time I've just lightly drifted away and still listening for deer but I must admit I had a couple of instances this year where I was out to the point that a whole group of guys could have tromped under me and I wouldn't have heard it.

I have slept in my saddle many times and quite a bit when I did not want to!! LOL

Falling asleep in the tree is the primary reason I started saddle hunting.
Not being able to stay awake on conventional stands during all day sits, day after day, was becoming a problem.
I knew falling off the platform was just a matter of time.
But its funny, even though I'm more comfortable in a saddle than I ever was on a conventional platform, I don't sleep as often now. But when I do fall asleep, I do so with piece of mind.

I was dozing a few months ago sideways with my right thigh against the tree and my head on the bridge. I woke up and went to stand up and when I looked down to my right a doe was looking up at me from about 5 feet away and 20 feet down. The game was up. I didn't have a doe license so no big deal.

I SLEEP in my bed.

I HUNT in my saddle.

My JX3 Hybrid is a different story though. I have a real hard time staying awake in that thing. LOL
