If you are referring to Wild Edge Stepps, you need to ensure the rope around the backside of the tree is lower than the two prongs on the Stepps that bite into the tree.
Do that and they will cam over and be tight regardless of the bark.

It helps to have a tree at least 12" diameter or bigger.
You can do it with smaller trees but it is harder to do.

if you want good bite with your batwings, only thing I can think of is adding a versa button/lonewolf strap or rope mod. Lash it to the tree and get it pushed down the tree..locked down, like a stick. Get your weight on it by either using a little aider(accessory cord/sling loop) from the bottom, or by getting above it and putting a foot on top of the bar.
Then work on your platform cam

Too much work, lol. I never had an issue before till this tree. Not sure what type it was. Maybe a hickory

So I just set up again on another tree and had the same issue. I use the lone Wolf strap. I rerouted the strap to go over the top of the platform and it bit in like a son of a gun.

I broke a Muddy V bracket tonight on my platform. I cammed it too tight.
