I have some Hawks on the way..... I plan on cutting them down to a 2 step stick. I would like links or videos on how you guys are modifying them???


Also..... never used an aider buT want to use a single aider with these. One I can advance and use up the tree as I climb..... suggestions here too!

Ok up red squirrel aider for your aider
 
I really only find videos of people who have finished products, not how to’s if that’s what you’re seeking
 
It's really rather simple.

Here is a photo of cut vs. uncut. You'll see the "gap" in the I-beam where the steps need to go. Mark the holes and drill them, careful to get the right placement so the steps still fold right. It's easiest to start with a small bit and work your way up to the 1/4". Use a hacksaw to cut the ends off and a file to clean up the sharp edges. Drill the middle of the beam for the offset bracket and reassemble your step, remembering the nylon washers.
