I recently bought a set of Hawk sticks and the plastic cups that are suppose to hold them together are terrible. I had to use a pry bar to get them to separate. I made the male piece smaller to allow them to come apart easier and they still are stuck and they have started to break. I tried to contact Hawk by phone, no answer, email-no reply. Are they still in business?

They are. They're just notorious for not responding to people. There is a bunch of info on the site about people having the same issue. I broke a couple before enlarging the female side of the cup to make them easier to get a part. There's also the option of replacing them with aftermarket pieces.

I tried modifying the male piece with limited results. I did enlarge the female part and now use those two parts for alignment and a bungy cord to keep them from rattling. If you can provide an address for the after market parts it would be appreciated. I like the sticks but who ever selected these plastic pieces was out to lunch.

I also recently purchased and received a set of Hawk minis, and I was expecting the suction cup issue. Literally every post I've seen on the Hawk sticks mention the suction cup issue. I don't know if it's because I haven't tried using them in colder temperatures, but mine are 100% fine after fiddling with them for a day or two. They're fine enough that I though maybe Hawk fixed the issue! Then I hop on here and read your post. Maybe I just got lucky?

I had the same problem and this is how I got the sticks apart.

1/ I laid the box they came in perpendicular inside the first and second stick so I could stand on either end.
2/ I took one of the straps they came with and wrapped it under the first and second stick by the flange/cup thing.
3/ while standing on the box I pulled up on the straps until the first side broke open. Move to the other end. Rinse and repeat until they are all taken apart.

then I took a razor and shaved off the inner lip on the inside of the cup.

then I sold the sticks and started one sticking/srt :)

I just got a set last week and expected same issue and mine are just right. not hard at all to get apart and enough grab to not shake them loose.

Take them off. The make and female adaptor both. The sticks stack together much flatter without them. Then just bungy them together.

I’ve never understood the mindset with using them on the sticks. My sticks pack flatter and quieter without them. To me, it was a stupid idea from design.

My preferred method is to pack them in pairs with one pair on each side of the pack. With each pair, face them towards each other so that the standoffs face each other and the sticks appear to be "hugging" each other. It's more compact that way. The suction thing is like the first aid kit that comes in luxury cars.

I opened up the female part and reduced the size of the male part. I just use them for alignment now and bungee cord them. Seems to work fine. Thanks for the feedback Stay well
