To any of yall that have one, I have been debating on picking one up from midway USA they have them for 120 right now. I hate to spend that for something I will only use maybe 3 times a year, have any of you used it in its folded down mode to haul a kayak strapped on it?

I have one, don't think it would work well in fold down mode for a kayak, it's pretty heavy but seems to work well. First time I tried to use it I didn't have the pins to keep the back half from folding so it was a miserable fail and I drug the deer out while a kind stranger hauled my cart. I now have pins and am looking forward to using it for deer #3. Hopefully today, possibly later this season.

I have hauled at least 15 deer out with mine. Great investment. I have never used in the folded position and don't think it would work well.

What pins are you talking about? I haven’t used mine but the handle definitely wants to fold on me (I didn’t have any pins or left over pieces after putting mine together). I was going to use some Velcro straps to hold the handle straight

Worth it for $120. Can be used for carrying heavy objects in your yard, too. Planting trees/big bushes or hauling logs if needed.

mine has just stayed in the bed of my truck all deer season.

The back half/non handle side. Mine shipped with nothing, bought two cotter pins to go through the holes and keep it from flopping closed with weight in it.

Sorry about double reply, bad service. Check out post 28 here you can see pins I'm talking about in second pic(not my post) https://www.archerytalk.com/threads/hawk-crawler-deer-cart.5728691/page-2

Thanks. I hadn’t even got that far but was missing those pins as well. I put a pin in one side. The handle issues I was having was a result of having the fabric between the two parts of the handle, I moved it to the inside of the inner handle part and now it locks up as you would expect. Thanks again!

Bought one for my dad last Father's Day when it was on sale. Finally got to try it out today. Worth every penny. I hauled his deer out for him by myself and it was probably the easiest non-motorized recovery I've ever had. Cart rolled over everything and never tipped.

$120 and $50 shipping plus tax. I knew it sounded too good to be true. Im still interested. Ive been looking at these for awhile. Anyone have experience to compare using one to a Jet sled?

I have used both. Sled is better for soft, slop, snow, etc. Hawk Crawler is better for hard ground. Both are better than nothing.

That said, the sled stays in my truck bed for the entire season. It is lighter and stows better. I have two Rubbermaid tubs of clothes/gear that fit in the sled and under the tonneau cover. When I need something, I pull the sled out and turn it sideways on my tail gate for easy access to both tubs.

Don't drag the sled across hard surfaces like gravel, pavement, etc and it will last a while.

I would say, if you hunt swamps, stick with the sled. If you hunt areas with packed down trails or gravel roads, get the Hawk.

I have a sled and like you stays in my truck all season. The terrain I hunt is all over the board. Dont know if I want to spend $200 though. I did see an amazon review say they got one in June 2021 on sale from Amazon for $94. I may suffer through this year and watch for a big sale like that in the off season.

Yeah, pretty sure I got my dad's for sub $100 during that sale. It was a few weeks before Father's Day, if I recall correctly.

It's only fair that I post some Jet sled photos since I brought it up:

I upgraded/added more rope handles with stronger rope by drilling custom holes and added fender washers to distribute the force of the stopper knots better. I started with 4, but removed the two on the sides. I almost never used them and they were constantly in the way. I also added a 10" piece of hollow plastic tubing to each rope to save my hands...

I shot my personal best buck this year and used the sled to get him out. He just barely fit in the 54x25 model that I have...

The drag was pretty easy until I got to the truck and realized I might not be able to lift him into the bed. I did it, but it took every ounce of strength I had left.

Because of this, I'm adding one of my lightweight aluminum folding ATV ramps to the bed along with the sled from now on. This should make loading and unloading a lot easier. This photo also shows how I stow my gear in the sled...

Another feature: The sled helps keep the truck bed relatively clean and protects the deer hide if you plan to do a mount.

Oh, and it's a great two person sled for wintertime fun with the kids. Just make sure you scrub all the blood and hair out of it first. o_O

It's just big enough for an adult to sit with the kid inside your legs for control and protection. Most crappy plastic toboggans aren't wide enough. Plus you have two primo rope handles for pulling them back up the hill. Be careful though, it's fast. :tearsofjoy:

You can also hook it to an atv... For those southerners that only get slight dustings.

My niece and nephew loved it.

I have a two wheeled deer cart but have never used it. I have a Jet Sled that I've used and it seems to work pretty well. It's a 54"x25" but it's really too small for mature bucks. The next size up, 66"x31" would be better suited for mature animals. I honestly don't think I could have gotten this buck on a two wheeled cart by myself. Heck, I struggled getting him in this sled. It sucks getting old...:disappointed:

I have both, used both, and as stated, they both have their time/place. I also have an older Cabela's magnum hauler cart, which works quite well too. I leave that one at a piece of private that I hunt that's out of town. I keep the Hawk and Jet Sled at home.
