So I went to modify my heliums and I can’t decide where to cut them off. They seem to set up most naturally (due to the cut outs) for a 22” length with 19.5 between steps or a 26” length with 24“ between steps. I was hoping for about a 23” spacing. I can get there If I try to squeeze both the steps and standoff into one solid section. However it leaves the steps close to the slots. In the picture I would drill the dots not the x’s.

I guess I am left with two questions. How close can I drill to the slots? If I cut through the slots to lengthen it some I could lower the step holes. Is it fine to cut it for length through the slots?

I would drill the two step holes as close to the middle of the solid section as possible. You could then either move your standoffs up the stick a little bit. (Just remember you can put your stand off anywhere you want on the stick. The slots do not affect it's positioning.) Or you could drill your standoff to allow longer bolts so you bolt through the steps and the standoffs at the same time. You can also cut your length of your stick through the slots. The only negative I see is creating a very sharp edge at the bottom/top of your stick. If you decide to cut it that way I would take a file to those edges and round them all pretty significantly as to not cut yourself or rip some very expensive hunting clothing.

Correct, step spacing either looking at 19.5 or 22". I went with 19.5", just personal preference I valued cutting that extra bulk over an extra 6" height.

You can eliminate the gap between the steps and standoffs, but in my opinion it eliminates the best way to stack them. I played around a lot with it and the most efficient way to stack these sticks is not to piggyback them, but go with two sticks back-to-back, then the third stick fits into a nice little gap. It's the cat's tits. If you get rid of that gap they won't stack that way.

I ordered 6mm rope. Will this work with the versa button on my heliums?

I cut mine at 22" over all and 19.5 between steps. Used 7mm rope with lone wolf versa button

I am trying to decide if i should cut mine. How much height is actually lost? I use 4 sticks, and i can see the advantages of pack ability and weight, but i am unsure if loosing the height is worth it. Any opinions of discoveries here?

I actually gained height. 3 sticks get me to 21ish foot. With single movable aider

Same here. 21' with three 15" sticks and moveable aider.

Would you mind sharing your spacing? I can't get the math right to get me nearly that high without a very long step between sticks. With three 15" sticks you have to make up over 17' in gap and aider correct?

Hang stick at 7ft high

Have an aider long enough to reach with ur foot from the top step of the stick or ground ur standing on

7ft (x3) = 21ft

I not understanding the spacing. If every stick/aider combo is giving you 7ft that equals 84 inches. Even if you had 22 inch sticks you need a 62 inch gap made up by your aider.

Yea? He prolly uses a 4 or 5 step aider...lots of guys on here use 5 step aiders
