Hello trad hunters

To each their own :) whatever works for you guys and is fun! I shoot a rather "modern" flatbow with a very low brace(like 6.75") height that spits arrows like bullets. I shoot 60 year old bear cedars with bear greenies. Gets the job done. Lots of different combos, lots of different styles. New school, old school, and everything in between. Have fun, shoot straight!

I shoot Border archery products pretty much exclusively. I still have a few risers and limbs from other companies. I compete in RU with a 27" tempest and hunt with a 21" phenolic ilf covert hunter. I have a 21" tempest on order so my transition from competition to the woods will be seamless. Same grip for both bows...can't wait.
I'm shooting efoc this year myself. Black eagle x-impact with 100gr outsert and 200gr vpa 3 blade. 45lbs @29.75" draw. My spine is 350. I bare shaft out to 30yds. I say we are all different because I'm typically shooting a stiffer spine than most. I got frustrated one day tuning and put 250gr on a 600 and it flew great. I can only surmise that certain spines will tune with certain weights, then show stiff or weak like one would expect. If its working for you, go kill em. Just thought it wouldn't hurt to ask you, since it sounded like you were new, but your not. Good to have you here.

I agree! Ultimately, we need to do what works for us. I believe in testing everything yourself and basing everything off of YOUR results. Definitely don't try to do what works for anyone else without testing it.....And don't listen to me, I'm an odd duck!

I definitely believe you and there are many ways to skin a cat but my approach is slightly different than yours due to the type of shooting that we do....I think? I have no experience with ILF, as I'm a hunter that shoots some 3D and that's it. I have learned a few things along that way that you allude to in your post and that come into play here. 1. Carbon arrows recover quickly from paradox and 2. shortening them stiffens the crap out of them....quickly! 3. Center cut of the bow has a major impact on what arrow can be shot successfully and 4. Feathers hide a lot of arrow problems :)

Honestly, I've never bought into the EFOC hype bc it addresses a non existent problem, at least in my setup on whitetail deer. What it does do is mess with my head bc it changes the trajectory of the arrow drastically when you load the front. You mention the advantages of a light arrow setup from a speed/gap perspective but 550 grains is not a light arrow. I shoot 9-10 grains per pound of bow weight and bury my arrows to the feathers on deer so I see no need go heavier. I don't need the arrow to stick in the ground, just make an exit hole. I can tell that you like messing with your trad setups as much as I do so I'm just sharing my experiences in an effort to possibly help someone else along the way.
I appreciate the input! The gentleman I met Scott Carpenter shot light arrows and a gap style and he was shooting down to 8 grains per pound and below. I have very limited actual hunting experience so I appreciate you sharing with me. I won’t be able to get back out until Sunday but I did just stumble across another 200 acres to hunt. He’s a deer from last week on the adjacent property that they lease out.

I’ve never shot a Border yet myself. Do you have the super curve limbs? I’m curious about what your total arrow weight and FPS you have with your setup and draw length? 27” draw isn’t my best attribute
