It was an odd duck....
Can you just shoot any duck and identify it later?
This is what keeps me from really trying to get into duck hunting. Takes experience and a trained eye to identify different varietys on the wing. I just dont have that experience or confidence. I can tell a mallard and woody, not much else. Goose hunting on the other hand is fun.Can you just shoot any duck and identify it later?
My uncle used to call it positive ID. Shoot first and identify later. I think he was just joking but who knows. This is what keeps me from really trying to get into duck hunting. You would mount it even if its a domestic cross? I dont know why, just feel like it takes it down a few notches on the coolness scale..Wall mount for sure
Yes, its unique, and domestic cross or not, it lived wild, and was a free range kill. You would mount it even if its a domestic cross? I dont know why, just feel like it takes it down a few notches on the coolness scale..
I started ducked hunting seriously 2 seasons ago. Have a few buddies who are BIG time that showed me the ropes. Identifying birds in flight is definitely a skill that takes some effort and practice. When I go out solo I'm always supper reluctant to do any calling. I'm pretty sure I sound like one one those "ridiculous ones" you are referring to lolI've never duck hunted but 1 of the wma I hunt is supposedly a top waterfowl destination in Florida.....I don't know how those guys identify anything.....they start shooting way before u able to see good. I get a kick out of listening to them with their calls....they are ridiculous

Illegal?
I am sure there are some ducks that are illegal to shoot. If you don’t know the answer to this.....
Then you don’t need to be insinuating this....
OP, it’s a khaki Campbell hen.
