Help with my DIY Platform Design

I built this today and I am having issues. When I cam it over it is tight to the tree however, I can push down on the platform and it falls down/ flips from top to bottom. Is this because my platform is to low on the aluminum post? Also, the XOP standoffs are terrible.

Figure that. I was hopeing to keep the platform no longer than the post when folded up. Would a versa button work better or will there be too much play during side pressure?

Yeah you pretty much have a Klemz platform, except there’s no way to ‘cam lock’ it, since the platform isn’t making contact with the tree making a lever.. you can try a versa button and after you strap it to the tree, be sure to stand on top of the post to make sure it slides down the tree and gets out as much slack as possible. It would probably be easier though to just redrill and mount mount platform higher so you don’t go drilling too many holes in the post.

Maybe you could add a versa button near the top and put a strap on after you cam the platform down to help stop the top from coming away from the tree

I just redrilled and moved platform to the middle of the post. It still flips down. I would prefer not to have to do two straps on it. At this point I regret cancelling my predator order. This diy doesnt seem safe for $120+ spent

I’m sure what you mean it’s flipping down, are you canning it tight enough?

There are lots of threads on this that may help you if you search back on the forum.

Just a heads up. I was using the strap that came with one of my Hawk Helium Sticks to cam over the platform, and the cam buckle broke. This happens when the caming action feels extremely tight. The portion of the cam buckle that you push to release the strap will actually flip all the way over. I just hope this doesnt happen while standing on the platform.

You are going to want to screw/rivet a piece of steel where the platform screw meets the tubing as well, it will deform otherwise.

I rivited bar alum. Right After cutting down to 9”. So far so good there. Maybe a stronger aftermarket cam strap/buckle?

I use the XOP strap and it works fine, lone wolf strap would work as well. You shouldnt have any issues with the XOP brackets now that you moved the platform to the middle of the post either.

Ya the xop strap that i bought just has the loops and is short. I goofed that purchase. I can get the platform solid but it somewhere between temporarily breaking the cam buckle (done it twice now) and loose enough that the tope standoff pulls away from tree when weight is put on platform. A little disappointed how finicky it is to cam over solid.

I am looking for a strap that is like the strap that comes with hawk helium sticks but stronger and safer. The cam buckle on the Hawk strap is giving out when I stand on my cammed over platform. I am looking to replace the strap with something with a stronger cam buckle. It will need a loop on the long end that I can larks head over one end of platform and a quick connect for other side like a open/closing hook that I can hook onto the webbing loop I have tied to other end of platform. I really liked the hawk strap for the closing hook that was quieter than using a climbing carabiner to make the connections between the webbing loop on platform and loop on other end of a XOP Strap. Any suggestions for best way to tether platform to tree?

I'm using LW straps on mine. However, I wasn't able to get mine solid enough without using 2 straps and a versa button but I wanted to keep the platform at the bottom so I went that route. Also, I have a metal hook with a plastic keeper that stays on the platform for attaching my cam strap. It adds a little weight but doesn't make any noise clanking around on stuff since it stays put. You can see the hook on the left side of the picture, held on with blue rope.LW platform.jpg

I feel the same as you. I tried it with the versa and it didn't work well either

I added versa button for security now I just need a strap for cammin it over.

I stole your idea and cut the hook off of the Hawk stick strap and put it on webbing that larks heads over the platform. Thanks
