Here I sit scouting in Florida.

I've read up on some of the Sovereign Land stuff and it seems really tricky. I could see how it cuts down on the number of people hunting those areas.

It is tricky and yes it does. Verbiage is pretty open, a lot of wardens don’t know exactly either. A warden friend of mine said if you see your foot print in the wet then you’re good, said that’s what many go by. It’s used much more by duck hunters than by deer hunters. Islands in marsh like where your pic is, islands within water ways influenced by tides. Look for Florida trusts land, TIFFT( might have that wrong, but close) this is all of our land, but it is very limited so I generally don’t share a whole lot of this type of info with locals in my area. So few people know about and do it that you can get some extremely low pressure deer and great quality hunting. Access is the tricky part, generally very limited forcing you to make access in less than ideal areas or situations based on wind, bedding, etc.

I've never heard of the boot print "rule". That rule of thumb makes it a little more manageable than some of the other definitions I have read. Yea it seems like a lot of what I have read was related to duck hunting. It sounds interesting for sure.

Hunting FL considered is miserable by most but it’s all I know

Every deer I’ve got is from FL & almost 100% public land WMAs or Sovereign

Sovereign access & boundaries can be a difficult to determine

As said in an above post: often times the wardens aren’t even sure of what areas are legal

Also, locals will hammer certain sovereign spots almost daily and are very possessive over it
